Morning Musings
Jul. 4th, 2014 01:04 pmThis morning, I woke up with the following running through my head. Strangely enough,
subversa used an icon this morning with a very similar message. I think her Muse and mine must have had their morning coffee together:
There's an old saying: If man were meant to fly, he'd have wings. Actually, I think we do - but we only ever need them in a 'fight or flight' situation. Fight or flight mode uses up a lot a energy. If you want to fly, the real trick is to learn how to conceal your wings until you really need them. Don't use up all your energy flapping them about, worrying about when the next crisis will come.
I don't know if this is a well-known phrase or just something Dahlra gave me, but when I wake up with something fuel-injected into my brain like that, I know I have to share it. See, love, I'm learning.

Cue 'Endless Love' Music...
May. 17th, 2014 10:18 pmI just saw this photo on my FB feed, and remembered why I love Snape so much. He reminded me so much of Spock, who was my first true love. I was four, and used to pretend that he and I would go on adventures. Star Trek TOS fanfiction was the first fanfic I ever read, and I will love Leonard Nimoy forever. The first in a long line of dark-haired, dark-eyed men who would lead me eventually to my Muse.
In the 80's he did a lecture tour, and I saw him at Clemson University. He walked right by me, but I was too shy to ask for his autograph.
He is very ill right now, but to me he will always be special, and important, and someone who made a difference in my life.
Isn't he beautiful?

droxy and I have always said that, had he been younger, he would have been the perfect Snape:

This poem came to me today, and I wrote it down, thinking it might be a drabble. It is exactly 100 words, and they are as they came out of my fingers.

Your Muse Is Calling You
Sep. 25th, 2013 11:58 pmOkay, I know that some of my friends are a little hesitant, but I am urging you, begging you, to go to
sshg_promptfest right now, and pick a prompt and write/draw/craft/cook/sing whatever!
There are still so many awesome prompts waiting for you to go and claim them. It's so easy, and really, all of us have creative strengths. It doesn't have to be an epic; it can be a poem. It can be a song! There are prompts that would allow you to create a recipe for food, or make dolls to represent the characters, or a crosstitch or crochet or knitting item. I've seen people put together scrapbooks for a prompt. Last time someone created jewelry.
Everyone has the ability, and the need to create. If you're not sure what your medium is, or how to use your medium, just go through the prompts - one of them is waiting for you. This is a magnificent opportunity to play to your strengths with a pairing and a fandom that loves originality and cleverness when putting together something for a prompt.
You CAN create. You can give a treasured gift to someone. You can do it! Don't hesitate, don't doubt; just go there now, and create. The world is waiting to hear your story, no matter how you choose to tell it. Open up your heart to inspiration; it will give you a feeling of accomplishment like no other. Don't be afraid.

I think I'm going to have to wait on the SED thing until I actually have time to sit down and do stuff. Last week's at-death's-door illness meant that this week work was twice as hard. We were racing home last night from our 7th Wal-Mart of the day at 11pm, trying to report them all before midnight. We made it, but we were so stressed out and exhausted we've spent most of the day recovering.
I'm behind....behind on my costume, behind on my talk, behind on Her Minder, behind on The Slave, behind on a story I promised
christev for a BINGO prize (I haven't forgotten about you, I promise!), and just generally, well, behind.
On a lighter note,
dragonsinger954 and I are doing a swap - a Hufflepuff scarf and mitts for my own Molly sweater, which is thrilling to me - I've never had a hand-crafted sweater made-just-for-me before. I am having a little trouble with my scarf rolling on the edges, so if anyone can give me some advice, it would be welcome.
Other than that, what am I doing? Enjoying the
sshg_promptfest prompts, the latest chapter of
subversa's new fic, which has me straining at the lead for more. I'm having a ball working on the next portion of The Slave with
lemonade8.
savine_snape sent me something wonderful to alpha read, and can't wait for
toblass's next edition of Potions 101, even if I'm the long-suffering object of ridicule and derision for getting caught sneaking under the professor's desk. ;) I continue to be inspired and uplifted by
mimimanderly and
muse_channels, and thank Providence for friends who 'get' me.
darkarts_ldws is off to a fantastic start - the drabbles there are top quality, and
stgulik and I have some stuff up our sleeves that make me happy to be alive.
jenidralph continues to make me laugh on a daily basis, and thrills me with her talents and love.
I send hugs aplenty to all my dear friends, and hope you are having a great weekend. I would like to paraphrase an amazing quote, which, to me, says so much about our Muses, and how they help us:
Schlock Mercenary creator Howard Tayler once said, "The voices in my head are finally talking to me again!" ...He was referring to the characters he created and the plotlines he strives to create with them. This is not insanity; it harms no one and even inspires people with humor, laughter, scientific curiosity (he puts a lot of scientific thought into his science fiction), and more. This is not insanity...this is creativity.
...I'm glad the voice in my head likes to talk to me, too. I also like how much many of you enjoy reading his thoughts when I share them with you.

Missing You Too Much
Aug. 9th, 2011 11:16 amAs simple as breathing, I picture your face, all tangled in daydreams and shielded with grace,
I feel you beside me in the this place.
Wherever you may be, lift up your head for me, there's somewhere in my heart only for you.
If I must do without, I'll let these sparks fly out across the wilderness from me to you.
As certain as sunrise your image unwinds, you're clearer than crystal, you fill up my mind,
Now I have you by my side.
Wherever you may be, lift up your head for me, there's somewhere in my heart only for you.
Though continents divide and lonely thoughts collide all heaven will allow no distance now.
I can always close my eyes, take your absence by surprise, hold my breath and make believe,
Wherever you may be, lift up your head for me, there's somewhere in my heart only for you.
If I must do without, I'll let these sparks fly out across the wilderness from me to you.

The Sempra Deck 02 - The High Priestess
Jun. 25th, 2011 09:42 pmThe amazing
mimimanderly has just released the next card of The Sempra Deck, a set of Major Arcana cards forming the Tarot. Each time Mimi posts a new card, I will post another edition of the story, so you can see how the story and the cards meshed together. Here is the next card - 02 The High Priestess, and here is the next chapter of the story.

Like A Girlie With A New Bike
Mar. 21st, 2011 10:09 pmWhoo hoo! I've just received three of the seven mixdowns from our recording sessions. I'm really so happy with it that I'm just going to share it with you.
The song is called Thanks For Nothing, and can be heard HERE, I think. This is the original link, and I know it's safe, but it will download the song, so you can listen if you like, then delete it. If you have Windows Media Player, it should download it automatically to that. I'm playing the piano (you'll know why I'm NOT known for my keyboard skills!), singing and the Hubs is playing bass.
I hope to add others later, but this is one that I wanted to share.
The last two chapters of The Sensual World have been posted on Ash, and that means my vacation is over. I've been using them as an excuse not to finish Lay Me Low Chapter 17, and now I have to get back to work. It is, after all a tough chapter.

Ten Feet Off The Ground
Mar. 20th, 2011 06:25 pmToday has been a day to remember. We returned to the recording studio to finish the CD for our Songwriters Guild concert on Saturday, and all the boys show up with guitars, mandolins, percussion, the works, and proceed to spend most of the day producing the hell out of my song. Incredible. We ended up with seven songs for this CD we're doing. Three of them are mine. One is the title track. I'm totally stunned. I'm just sitting there, hearing all this beautiful work on MY stuff, tears rolling down my face, thinking: these guys are just the best.
Tomorrow we're on our local radio station promoting the concert, which will be next Saturday. If y'all are in the neighborhood, drop by and see us. We mix down tomorrow, and I promise to put a couple of the tracks on YouTube. Yes, I'm that proud of them, that I'm going to put them here. Gosh, I might even put a photo of myself on it. Nah, who am I kidding?
Saturday from Hell turned out better than I expected, and once the problem group arrived, they were actually very nice and courteous and loved everything we did. We made money and ate Mexican afterward. It was a nice day.
Off to eat at our friends house for games night. I think K's serving Brinner (breakfast eaten at dinner). I'm starving. Being inspirational is hard work.

How Much Fun Was That?
Mar. 16th, 2011 10:22 pmThe Hubs and I went to the recording studio today to polish up some recording. A song of mine was selected to be the title track of the EP we are putting together for our Songwriter's Guild, so I figured I'd better go and record it. It turned out ten times better than I'd hoped. I got little sleep last night, and I was just exhausted and afraid my voice would show it, but it went really well. We also polished up bits of the stuff we'd already recorded, including the song As Morning Falls, which I based a fanfic on. The songwriter wants to read the fic, although he knows nothing about HP, and I don't know that he would appreciate the story, but the song is so beautiful, and I got to do backing vox on it, so I'm very proud.
The song I recorded tonight is called Inspire, and it is a little conversation between myself and my Muse. It was written in about five minutes after a conversation with Mimimanderly, and I'm about as proud of it as I am anything I've ever done.
I finished my first drawing and I'm pretty happy with it. It took me ages to get a face drawn correctly. I have no training and very little patience and no idea of spacial awareness, so the fact that I can actually draw something that remotely looks like people can only be attributed to the Muse.
I'm totally shattered and tomorrow is St Paddy's day, so I have to get into the shop early and deck the halls with boughs of Shamrocks. Goodnight, my dear friends.

The Sensual World - Posted
Mar. 15th, 2011 02:24 pm Chapter 3 of The Sensual World is now on Ash. I'm benefiting from a lovely new beta, who stepped in when other commitments meant my betas were no longer able to help out. She has done a super job getting me up and running. The fic is very well received, and after major reworking, I'm fairly pleased with it meself. It's not necessarily a good thing being a fan of one's own work, but you gotta like what you do.
Lay Me Low is fraught at the moment. It's a very important chapter, and I just can't concentrate on it. It's a pivotal part of the story, and damn if I just can't pull it together, I rewrote the previous chapter ten times and it was very well received, so I know I'm still making sense.
Didn't get to record yesterday, because there was a huge car crash in the area around the studio, and all the power lines were down. It was a mess. We are set to do it tomorrow, which doesn't please me at all. It means that instead of singing on a rested voice, I'm going to be tired from working all day and it will show in my voice. Oh well, I'm pretty sure of the song, so it'll be well.
Send sweet thoughts to my Muse, who is desperately trying to get my head around this chapter.

Drabble for Grangersnape100
Mar. 8th, 2011 07:48 pmI'm being such a copycat today - sorry, Melusin! I wrote a 200 word Drabble (click here) for
grangersnape100 and I ended up being kinda proud of it, so I wanted to share with my friends. Mel, I promise you I'm not a stalker. Melusin's is better, I'll grant you, but it inspired me to check in with the Muse to channel some of this feeling of loss and sadness at the kid's leaving yesterday.
BTW, I'm finally writing in *wait for it!!* The Writing Nook!!! It doesn't have the pics up yet or the Hubs across the way (he's still feeling a little low, so doesn't feel like moving furniture), but I'm here and getting settled in.
Mimi sent me a set of the most beautiful rune cards, and the reading I gave myself was so scary I almost stored them in the freezer! I just have to remember I am master of my own destiny and can change things as I see fit. But, in the words of Joey Tribbiani, "Beth's gettin' real sick!"

Lay Me Low Chapter 15 Up
Mar. 4th, 2011 03:47 pmChapter 15 for Lay Me Low has been posted on Ashwinder, and I only had one cavity!!! Thanks to
talesofsnape and
lilyevans_snape for their alpha and beta magic. I'd really like your input on it, as you folks are my best audience.
Chapter 16 is a bugger. I thought it was going in one direction but ended up heading in another. *sigh* Dahlra, I hope you know what you are doing.

But Everybody's Got One
Mar. 4th, 2011 09:30 amMy stepdaughter just came back from artistic ink with her latest tattoo: a blue willow teacup and saucer, with her dad's initials in the middle. It's really pretty. When I asked her if it hurt, she said with absolute conviction, the words I will forever use when Hermione loses her virginity to Severus: "It hurts, but it's a pain I want to feel again and again. I crave it now."
Hmmm.
I have thought long and hard about getting a tattoo for many years. My problem is that 1) I don't know what to put on my body that will still be relevant to me in 30 years' time, and 2) I'm a wimp when it comes to real pain. Spank, paddle and cane me all you like but no needle play, please.

Erotica Meme - Of Course I Have To Do It
Mar. 1st, 2011 10:09 pmAs someone who started writing erotic fiction, I just had to copy this from
laurielove, who is such a great writer, and a very encouraging LJ friend:
Thanks to
willowfaerie2 and
libertyelyot for this.
( Erotica Meme, or What Turns Teddy On/Off )
Whew! That took longer than I'd anticipated. Now I gotta get back to the real smut. Sempra's birthday is in two days.
