I just saw this photo on my FB feed, and remembered why I love Snape so much. He reminded me so much of Spock, who was my first true love. I was four, and used to pretend that he and I would go on adventures. Star Trek TOS fanfiction was the first fanfic I ever read, and I will love Leonard Nimoy forever. The first in a long line of dark-haired, dark-eyed men who would lead me eventually to my Muse.

In the 80's he did a lecture tour, and I saw him at Clemson University. He walked right by me, but I was too shy to ask for his autograph.

He is very ill right now, but to me he will always be special, and important, and someone who made a difference in my life.

Isn't he beautiful?

he definitely would have been the perfect spock had he been several decades younger. and i like you was gaga over him back in the day.

i wrote a little story once where lily and remus go to a comic con type thing and run into snape. since it's somewhat relevant to the topic at hand, i'm including the link in case you are interested. http://www.thepetulantpoetess.com/viewstory.php?sid=18993

Spock was one of my first loves, too. (It helps that Nimoy is so very easy on the eyes.) He would have made a brilliant Snape!

It's strange, but I remember my mother and grandmother talking about how ugly he was, and how strange he looked. I kept my secret love in my heart because they laughed at me about it. I was always a little quiet about my crushes because I got teased about them so much. I argued my corner, but I never let on how much it hurt me that the men I found so intriguing and irresistible seemed to be considered so weird to everyone else around me.

Yeah, but if they were going to do HP a la' HBO, with 12-one hour episodes for a book, who would you pick for the new Severus Snape?

Remember, in PS/SS, Snape was only 31 years old. Personally, I'd vote for Tom Hiddleston, since he has the acting chops and voice to do Severus justice,

Imagine him with black contacts:

I think TH is nice looking, but I'm not a huge fan. Like with Cumberbatch, his hype has turned me off a bit, but I realise I'm in the minority. The thing is there are a lot of British actors out there. I almost wish they'd find someone a little more unknown (don't get me wrong, I love AR to bits and his will always be The Voice Of Snape to me), so that he could imprint Snape all his own, instead of someone who is already established as another famous brooding character.

One other actor I think could possibly do a decent job might be rob james-collier of Downton Abbey fame.

Yeah, he got popular because of Loki, but he's really good. I saw him during a live performance of Coriolanus via satelite feed and it was amazing. He was not Loki, he was the general fated to die.

Of course AR will always be the voice of Snape, but if they ever do re-do HP, teh should get an actor closer to the actual age of hte characters. They did it for the kids. I thought Gary Oldman - as good as he was, was a bit too old ot play Sirius.

But yeah, I'm hoping that they would use a lot of good up and coming actors. Ther are so many good ones out there yet to be discovered,

I can see TH as a more modern version of Snape, but Adrien Brody has the schnoz. I agree, sometimes overhyping the actors ruins them. Actors are not characters, they are just people with jobs. I swear I must be the only person on the friggin planet that doesn't deify celebrities. I just saw another snape like looking actor...but dont ask me to remember...LOL

That was one of the things I noticed in Great Britain - British actors are not canonised or placed on pedestals. They are people who live next door who have a job. It's what they do, and they get treated like everyone else in England. In fact, Brits spend their time tearing down 'celebrity for celebrity's sake'. They will build them up, but they love tearing them down. And because they lived around us, it wasn't that big a deal to see famous people walking down the street or in the supermarket. Watching them like that brings them down to earth. I hate the way America treats actors, like they're some kind of greater beings.

I didn't ask Leonard Nimoy for an autograph when I had the chance, not because I thought him to rarefied, but because I was too shy to approach him in front of a bunch of sycophantic college guys hovering around him.

Oh, HELL YEAH!!! Nimoy in his early years would be the ultimate Snape! He even had the voice for it. Needless to say, he was my first celebrity crush, as well.

I adored him from the first time I saw him at age four. Just the first in a long line of men with those physical attributes. I know it is because he reminds me of Dahlra so much.

I understand. He has a special place in my heart for so many reasons. It is so sad to see him so very ill now.

Spock was one of my first fictional crushes, too, back in the way-back of my childhood, and he's never really left my heart. (The others were Lord Gwydion from the Chronicles of Prydain and of course Aragorn.) I'm envious you saw him live; I've never had the opportunity.

He would indeed have made an awesome Snape -- love the artwork!

ST:TOS first came on when I was four, and the moment I saw him I fell in love. I am convinced it is because my Muse has the same physical attributes (dark hair, dark eyes, sallow skin - sound familiar?) and that this was a connection I remembered from our previous lives.
