I haven't had the chance to read all of the delicious [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween entries, but the ones I have read are simply marvelous. It is amazing what a skilled author can do with 200 words.

This year my recipient was also my gifter (I think this happened to me a few years back as well). Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] theimpossiblegl, for such a beautiful and evocative piece, Push The Sky Away It was the perfect Halloween piece, featuring my OTP and Argus Filch, whom I love in fics.

Impossible Girl is a dear friend, and it was an honour to write The Bat of The Party for her, featuring her OTP.

If you have a chance, pop over and have a read. The cool thing about this fest is that you can read them all very quickly, and don't forget to leave some comment love. I know I plan to.

Just turned in my [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween gift. I love that fest - I guess it's understandable why I totally forgot about it last year, but it's lovely to be writing again.

My [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest entry is zooming along. I'm on the home stretch. It's a funny thing; I started it last week, and I'm sitting at 10K words. When did that happen? I know a good bit will go by the wayside once [livejournal.com profile] stgulik really gets stuck in, but for the most part I really like most of what I've written. I'm hoping that means it might be good and not self-indulgent wank, but I suspect the latter is in there as well.

I also have started writing in a journal nightly. This is something I haven't done in a long time, and it's just the most shallow, trivial journal. Just stuff that I did during the day, what I'd like to do tomorrow. A little section about positive things that happened on the day, etc. Nothing deeper than that. It's like I don't have the time or energy to write down all my feelings in longhand. I don't even go back and read it. It's just a brain dump at the end of the day. I hoped it would enable me to sleep better, but last night I had some really disturbing dreams. So much for the brain dump.

Work this week was dismal, but the next few days are going to be very busy. I've trotted out my few Halloween/Autumn decorations, just the opening ceremonies for Christmas, really. I always decorate early in November, but I also take them down bang on around New Year, so maybe in the grand scheme of things I don't have them up all that much more than most.

I'm also getting a lot of stuff in my head for the third and last book of the series. It will be called Silverbirch, and it's going to be more action driven than sex-driven. I'm hoping that means I can actually sustain people's attention long enough from smut to smut and actually say something someone wants to read. You get a little tired of thinking that the only thing people might want to read of yours is the sex stuff. I did get a beautiful compliment the other day on FB when I mentioned I was writing for the Gift fest. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] worrywart1966, for that. She said: "If I received a piece of fiction from you, I wouldn't care if it were 1000 words or 10,000 words. I know that each word would have been chosen carefully and with love." That's about the nicest thing anyone has ever said, and something I can actually whole heartedly agree with. I do try and choose the best words. All 10,000 plus of them.

It's been over 3 years since I participated in the[livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest. Before that, I had such a negative experience with HP_Promptfest (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] madeleone for clearing that up) I vowed I'd never do another big fest again. Three years since I've written Severus/Hermione as a pairing. I have wondered if I have truly done all I can with these characters. But I signed up. And lo and behold, I was assigned someone with some excellent prompts, and I thought, "The minimum is 1000 words. I can do that in a day. Piece of cake."

I've been at it for roughtly 3 days, give or take. 6400 words have been written. Not all of them bad. [livejournal.com profile] stgulik has been extremely encouraging. I think I can do this. I'm on the home stretch; its not going to be another Lay Me Low by any means. It won't win any awards for originality, and those people on LiveJournal who have always called me a hack will not not have a change of heart because of this fic, but I don't hate it. I even hold out hope that the recipient will like it.

I'm really looking forward to the [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween assignments now.

Psst! Hey honey, c'mere! )

Hey, everyone! Let's get another awesome year of Halloween drabbles going with [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween! It is quite possibly the easiest, most low-pressure fest out there. The maximum is 200 words, and it is one of my favourites. Because of all the stuff going on with TheHubs™ last year, I didn't get to participate, but I'm so looking forward to it this year!

Come on along and sign up for it HERE!

One of my all-time favourite fests is the [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween drabble fest. It's run by amazingly patient and gifted mods, the participation is always primo, and it's such a low-stress fest that I actually made my deadline and everything (well, I did bug the poor mods to death with edits and re-submits, but as I say, they're saints).

I received a stunner of a fic by [livejournal.com profile] laralee88 called Now I See Them. It is so atmospheric and deliciously voyeuristic you actually feel like you're in the same room with the lovers. Go and read and give lots and lots of love!!!!

And my gift to the ever wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hbart is called A Spell Moste Potente, which I hope she will like.

In addition, there are loads of wonderful Halloween drabbles to read and enjoy. Please hop over to the fest and give these talented friends some comment love - they outdid themselves!

I've just managed to submit my [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween offering this year. Yay! I actually contributed to a fest this year!

And  like the arsehole I am, I forgot to mention [livejournal.com profile] stgulik in my notes and thank her for the amazing help she gave me in this. I sent a second message to the mods asking them to add this to the author's notes, but if I screwed up and they can't, I want it mentioned here that Jules' beta work on this knocked it out of the park for me. And I'm sorry to be such a plonker.

My favourite fest is go and taking signups! [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween is a very fun, very easy writing fest - 200 word MAX, and it's a great way for writers to meet other writers and have fun Halloween style! Please check them out, and participate!

Just blowing in to say hello. This week has been crazy busy - emphasis on the crazy. A 60-hour work week, and in between I got railroaded into being House Manager for a three-week run play at the local Community Theatre. I'm behind on everything, including Christmas knitting, housework and cleaning, I'm so stressed my ectoptic heartbeats are ramping up, and I feel totally overwhelmed. My first night off in a week, and what does TheHubs™ want to do? Attend a concert of Sweeney Todd at the local University. I will explain the situation on that when I can catch my breath - it is a lovely morality tale on how karma will bite your ass when you least expect it and most deserve it - it's a great story.

Still are having problems with drain flies.

The only good thing I've accomplished this week is that we recorded a fun Halloween podcast (sneaking in shameless pimpage is my superpower), so I would be honoured if you'd have a listen to Episode 11 - Halloween Edition of Teddy & The Bassman. I really hope you'll enjoy it.

Gotta run - those litter boxes won't clean themselves. More's the pity.

Oh, and Happy Halloween to all my dear friends! I wanted to celebrate the day by staying at home, vegetating and possibly eating junk food, but we'll see.

EDIT:

Crikey! I forgot all about mentioning my awesome [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween gift from [livejournal.com profile] inamac, called Cakes and Turnips. The one I wrote for her is called Do We All See the Same Moon?. Please go and check out all the lovely goodies there - each one is a definite treat.

Hello friends. Sorry I've been so absent as of late. I've been reading LJ every day, but just too work-knackered to contribute.

The Unhappy Wedding Guest )

A quick reminder that [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween sign ups run through today, so please participate. It's the most stress-free of fests. Also, please remember that if you are fortunate enough to receive a hp_halloween treat, take the time to thank your gifter. It's no fun giving a present and not at least getting a 'thank you' for you hard work.

To provide you with some inspiration, I came across the full version of my current userpic and its origins. It just goes to show that even then women were being photoshopped:

I hope all of my dear friends are having a wonderful Halloween. Ours is pretty quiet this year - with all the healthy eating, we didn't indulge in the too-tempting candy, so it's a quiet affair.

But my real treat came in the form of [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween, one of my all-time favourite fests. It's the most fun, and all day long we get to read treat after treat after treat. My drabble was written by [livejournal.com profile] krissy_cits, who just delighted me to no end. Please read her awesome drabble HERE. It made me laugh out loud, and pushed all my happy buttons. Thank you so much, Krissy love!

There are so many awesome fests going on right now, but please don't forget the most stress-free fest of them all, [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween. It is a 200 max drabble fest, and the most fun fest I've ever participated in.  This will be my third year (I think a record for me) and it's been so much fun in the past I can't wait to do it again. Signing up is a breeze, and who can't write 200 words??

Also, the awesome [livejournal.com profile] severus_fest is still claiming prompts right now, and there are some delicious prompts out there. I found one I just can't wait to work on, and it is also a very low-stress, laid-back fest.

Please give these awesome fests a go - they may be just the thing to blow out the last of the summer heat and give us something to get excited over for the upcoming months.

Also (I promise this is the last pimp!), the [livejournal.com profile] hpfanficfanpoll awards are ramping up, and Severus/Hermione have their own categories this year. If a fic really moved you (and was written during this year), please nominate it. I don't know what has been nominated so far, but let's please show our appreciation of the good ship SSHG in these awards.

Sorry, pimpage is over, but go, do, write!!!
