A Few Things Going On

I'm behind with the Random Snowflake challenge, but I'll catch up. I've spent the day reading, editing podcast dialogue, and playing games with TheHubs™ (card and board games, get your mind out of the gutter - it's only early).
I'm thrilled to bits because we found out today that Teddy & The Bassman podcast is #61 in Stitcher's Top 100 Podcast Movers Poll - our numbers shot up over 13,000 listens this week! I'm totally flabbergasted, not to mention over the moon. If you have contributed to this number, thank you so very much. It means the world to me that people are actually listening. I came across this article from a link in Facebook, and while it had a nostalgic edge to it, there was a bit of smug condescension in the writing as well. LiveJournal may be a 'thing of the past' for many, but aside from the connections I've made and the fandom that took my hand and called me friend, it is my place to log my thoughts and ramblings. That you find them worth reading is the best bonus there is, but unlike the person writing this article, I don't see anything wrong with LiveJournal as a superb means of self-expression and introspection.

Date: 2016-01-10 03:35 pm (UTC)On the LJ thing, that smug attitude is something I've come across in other areas (places like fandom_secrets and Tumblr) and it always comes across as petty and a little silly. LJ is what it is and for some of us, while it's slow moving and getting quieter, it still is the best place to hold in depth conversations and get to know each other on a more intimate level than other platforms. I'm not sure why anyone would feel the need to be smug about that. People are strange.

Date: 2016-01-10 04:08 pm (UTC)I admit I didn't read the article, but I feel like I'll always prefer LJ/DW as a platform to other social media. Like Kat said, it's still the best place (I think) to get to know people better and have in-depth conversations.

Date: 2016-01-10 05:57 pm (UTC)Livejournal has not only helped me meet a lot of great people, but it has also helped cultivate my ability to write and flex those creative muscles I never really knew I had.
I'm not nearly as active on LJ as I was when I first started (Here's hoping 2016 is the year the trend breaks), but I could not imagine not having this outlet to interact with genuine people, and even rant and rave when the notion strikes.

Date: 2016-01-10 10:06 pm (UTC)LJ isn't as dead as everyone claims *sighs gustily* if all the complainers would actually post, it definitely wouldn't be "dead." I get so tired of that.
I've made most of my best friends through here, and so many of you precious peoples.

Date: 2016-01-11 12:30 am (UTC)The article on LiveJournal was pretty interesting. I piddle around on Facebook, but my favorite place will always be LJ. It's where my chosen family are.

Date: 2016-01-11 07:23 am (UTC)And I can't stand the way Facebook keeps reordering the articles according to how it wants me to read them, instead of how *I* want to read them. At least with LJ, if I read backwards, I'll reach the beginning of the previous patch of reading, and know I haven't missed any.
Besides, how many people did I meet in person last March and April thanks to meeting them on LJ first?

Finally, I love LJ and couldn't be more grateful to have landed here, amongst all you awesome weirdos! Heart heart heart.
