On the LJ thing, that smug attitude is something I've come across in other areas (places like fandom_secrets and Tumblr) and it always comes across as petty and a little silly. LJ is what it is and for some of us, while it's slow moving and getting quieter, it still is the best place to hold in depth conversations and get to know each other on a more intimate level than other platforms. I'm not sure why anyone would feel the need to be smug about that. People are strange.
