Just came in from sitting in front of the firepit. I never had much experience with fires, but I'm pretty good at this one. It's no real fun alone, though. TheHubs™ was at play rehearsal and got home just as the last of the embers was starting to fade.

I was also delighted to discover again this excellent animated version of A Christmas Carol. It is said to have derived its 'look' from 1800s engravings by Richard Williams. I remember seeing it as a child and being haunted by poor Marley's ghost, and from the pitiful figures of Ignorance and Want skulking beneath Christmas Present's robe. It's rather short, but I hope you'll enjoy it.

Our fire pit was one of our best purchases ever! Very relaxing, but yes, not as cozy when you're on your own. I despise winter, so ours sees the most action in the fall and spring. Glad to know you are still staying in relaxing-and-enjoying-the-moment mode.

I love that story in all its renditions. I remember this one from my childhood. Thanks for sharing!

Glad to know that you are carrying out your resolution to be more "in the moment". Pretty soon you will be an expert at Incendios. It took me a little while. The trick is in the layering: crumbled newspaper topped with twigs topped with small pieces of wood, adding the progressively larger and denser logs as the fire takes. Of course, it must be very dry and well-seasoned. (I like a spicy dry rub with a bit of salt. Har har....)

I took a tip from [livejournal.com profile] hechicera, who used paper, then wood shavings, then a couple of small kindling sticks. I also have a few pine cones, but they're mostly for show (flashy things!). I think there's also a knack to moving your logs around in a firepit, so they can breathe.
