It's been a not-too-crazy day here at Steampunk Towers, so I've had a chance to do a little cooking, a little knitting, and a little work. The production of A Christmas Carol TheHubs™ is currently in had it's Sponsor Night tonight and it went well. Tomorrow Mom and I are going - I'm really looking forward to it. Here is a lovely 'trailer' for it. TheHubs™ can be seen as Fezziwig dancing and another character turning around and walking through a door

We have a fair amount of parties to attend this Christmas, which makes me happy because it makes TheHubs™ happy - sometimes I feel as if he doesn't have too many friends here, and yet all his theatre friends love him to bits (they just don't want ot drive the 30 miles to our house to visit - well, most of them, anyway). Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday we have Christmas parties to attend, and I'm glad. We're only going to have a small family get together this Christmas Eve here, and I feel quite isolated being at home alone so much. I realise we work together, but that's different from home down time, and we haven't shared too much of that since August, what with one play after another. It's been very gratifying seeing him doing something he loves and doing it so well, so I don't say anything.

He's already slated for another play next June, so most of spring will be taken up, and he's going to audition for a February show this Saturday. Hey, it's writing time.

I have made the amazing decision not to send out Christmas cards this year - something I haven't missed in over a decade. I don't know why, but time is really speeding by, and I just don't want to add that to my list of stuff to get anxious over. I'm already aggravated at myself for not taking my annual photos of my decorations, but there you go.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a 2-player game that I can get for TheHubs™? We like hidden objects and adventure/problem solving games. We're not into that kind of roleplaying, though, so no WOW or D&D, please. I've looked at a few, but I'd like your opinions.

I watched the Amazon series "Man In The High Castle" and was so baffled I decided to read the PK Dick novel it was based on. Talk about fanfiction! The series bore almost no real resemblance to the original story, except for the names of some of the characters. At least six of the main characters, whose storylines made up most of the series, aren't even IN the original novel! I better never hear anyone in Hollywood get up their own arses about fanfiction ever again.

I mentioned yesterday about the neurotic reader who wrote the big diatribe about how upset she was that my Severus in Father Figure wasn't living up to her idea of the 'perfect Fantasy Dom". [livejournal.com profile] stgulik (yes, [livejournal.com profile] mimimanderly, I totally agree that it would be wonderful to have our very on Jules inside our brains. Thankfully, she is pretty close) helped me compose a very user-friendly reply to her, and yes, of course, she had to write back. I almost didn't read it - usually the second message is little more than a pissing contest and I always end up regretting replying in the first place.

This time, however, Neurotic girl surprised me. Rather contritely she bowed to higher experience, and admitted that she had no real understanding of the lifestyle, and that she mostly just found anything out of the ordinary a bit scary, and therefore never really tried anything new. I reminded her that life was scary, and that she should indeed be cautious, but that didn't mean that she should avoid all risks. Sometimes, I told her, reality can blow fantasy out of the water.

I have found things to delight me today - A silly little tree ornament at Target, which I studied and promptly told TheHubs™ I could recreate for free - and did:

Cut for craft dupe )

A terrific [livejournal.com profile] grangersnape100 drabble series I read today called A Manner of Rescue by a master of drabbling, [livejournal.com profile] iqeret. I adore her drabble series.

Just found out even as I was typing that TheHubs™ won a part in a play he desperately wanted to do. Looks like I'm going to be a theatre widow for a little while yet, but he's really happy and I love watching him work.

Just finished the rough edit of our Christmas Edition of the podcast, and we'll probably post it tomorrow.

I have a much-needed three days off this week, which is good because I need to clean house, which I'm not doing, and bad because it means a low paycheck next week, oh well. It's been pretty good, no body part giving me any particular misery, just the creaks and groans of increasing age. I have developed a bit of arthritis in my left jaw, which means that chewing can be a little tiresome on certain days. I think this is nature's way of telling me I've eaten too much over the years and now my jaw is no longer under warranty.

I'm settling back into being a blonde, and with it has come this insane urge to wear my hair in victory rolls and bandanas and actually wear makeup - they seem to go together like cookies and milk. I haven't bought any makeup since before MISTI 2013, so I'm woefully unprepared for that part. Bandanas are cheap - makeup isn't. But I have a $3.50 off coupon and a little money left on my Ulta gift card from Christmas, so I'm going to try and get a few bits and pieces this week.

TheHubs™ and I finished Episode 8 of our Teddy & The Bassman podcast, and I am deliriously proud of it - it is our best yet. I would love for you to have a listen and tell me what you think - just click on Sevvy below to listen:

After receiving my fantastic MISTI-Con swag, [livejournal.com profile] irishredlass offered TheHubs™ roomie space at MISTI-Con 2017 - we mention it in the podcast, as well as Masters of Sex, pumpkin spice, theatre, and TheHubs™ reads an excerpt from Her Minder, the section in which the two characters meet the first time - and even though I'm a bit biased, I think you will agree with me he is brilliant!

I have so much fun putting these together. I think they're mildly entertaining - I'd love for you to have a listen, or rec us to friends who like to listen to podcasts. Every time TheHubs™ does our ident 'Captain Flashheart' stylee I crack up - every. single. time.

It's also got me thinking I want to do some more podfics now that I have better equipment.

I opened the next two chapters of Labour of Love this week, and I'm in conference with [livejournal.com profile] stgulik on how to proceed. I know I'm going to have to put some work into this to bring it all together. I had painted myself into a corner, and knew I'd have to really hustle to fix it. But as
[livejournal.com profile] irishredlass so wisely observed, "then it's time to paint a window and escape".

It also took me reading the Divergent series to appreciate you can't be lazy.

TheHubs™ is in a play which begins a week from today. He has a really juicy part, with an American accent no less. He is going through his pre-opening night checklist - upset stomach, patchy sleep, achy, flu-ey symptoms. Poor guy - he is such a fine, solid performer, but he still has those jitters.

Well, I'm off to see what I can get into today. Wish me luck - hugs to all who needs 'em.  ♥

It's been a really nice day so far. TheHubs™ and I slept in, then had a nice leisurely breakfast. (Note to self: Get stronger coffee!! The stuff we have is so wimpy muscle men kick sand in its face at the beach) Mom called and invited us out to lunch tomorrow, which is always fun.

We went by Home Depot and picked up some final bits and pieces to hang curtains, and looked at ceiling fans. I would like to find better prices on them, but I've not had any luck so far online. The two we really liked at Home Depot were hanging up with price tags on them, but when we asked about them, we were informed that those particular two had been discontinued. I reminded the Home Depot guy that customers really hate to be disappointed by being told something in their shop isn't for sale.

Strangely enough, the same thing happened at the Goodwill store about 30 minutes later. I found a small clock I wanted, but it didn't have a price tag. When I got to the checkout, the cashier told me that it would 'have to be taken to the back room and priced, and it would be a few days before it was brought back out on the floor.' I tried to explain that I didn't want it in a few days but now, and her give a shit factor could not have been lower. I asked to speak to the manager, who apologised, fixed the cashier with a stern, not-too-happy look and said, "I'll talk to you later."

She then took it back and priced it for me and I paid for it and left, bemused and aggravated at the jobsworth attitude that some clerks adopt to make themselves feel important.

We're going to see a play tonight. It's "pay what you can" night at the theatre, so we will get in on the cheap. I told TheHubs™ I would go if he dropped me off and picked me up at the door. Nowadays the parking situation in G'ville is atrocious, and I'm just not in the mood to walk six city blocks to a show I'm not all that keen on seeing. We're going solely because he wants to. Lazy on my part, but that's my part.

It looks like work it finally picking up, but we have to drive all over the country next week to work it. I calculate that we will be in 13 different stores next week. At least they pay mileage and gas allowance.

I think tomorrow will be up early, trying to tidy up for when mom arrives to take us out to lunch - I think she really more than anything wants to see the new decor.
