Snowflake Challenge 2017 - Day One
Jan. 1st, 2017 06:51 pmLast year, I started out the Snowflake Challenge with gusto. It was the second or third year I'd participated, and one of the things I love about the challenge is the feeling that it gets the new year off to a good start with writing. When Alan Rickman died, I stopped. I was so saddened by the loss of this very special man, I could hardly write about it. Almost a year later, I still cannot watch any of his films.
Then, in February, a good friend asked to read my novel, and wanted to know if I would read hers. No only did she provide me with a great sounding board (and the chance to enjoy her writing, which I admire so much), but she helped me to find my confidence about my own work again. So I'm taking the Challenge again, and hoping that this year, there will be no traumas to interrupt it.
Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I've decided to post recs for fanworks I created in 2016 this year, because I had the chance to do some really fun collaborations and interesting pairings. These didn't get all that much recognition from my usual reader base because they were either an unusual pairing, they missed out on a fest due to unusual circumstances, or they just got caught in the end of year writing fest melee and didn't receive a lot of airtime.
The first is one called And They Will Know The Truth In Our Scars. It was inspired because of an artpiece by MyWitch (at LiveJournal), who was creating a deliriously fun coloring book called The Village Broom: The ABCs of Severus Snape. Every few days Mywitch would poll her friends as to which characters to draw in flagrante dilecto with our favourite Potions Master. When it came to the P's, everyone was clamouring for Harry Potter, of course. I am not and I fear never will be a Snarry fan, so I was among a small but dedicated group who fervently hoped the Patil Sisters would be the winners. When Harry won, Stgulik and I talked about creating a fic as a sort of 'consolation' prize. I've been very honoured to be approached to have it translated into Gujarati.
And They Will Know The Truth In Our Scars.
Pairing: Severus Snape/Padma Patil/Parvati Patil
Rating: NC-17
Length: 8890 or so
Warnings: Explicit sexual content, femmeslash, threesomes F/F/M, references to violence (past tense)
Summary: It was another one of Lucius and Narcissa’s boring parties, until someone, like Severus, decided to break the rules.
The second one is called Take These Stars Down To The World (I'm getting into a bad habit of long, wordy, cryptic titles). It was supposed to be in the summer SSHG fest, but problems with coding in the story meant it was not allowed to be in the fest. I won't go into the messy details. The problem was that, after all the to-ing and fro-ing, then ultimately being rejected, I lost a lot of mojo for this story. After reading it again, I feel a little kinder toward it, and actually feel like I did some good work in it.
Take These Stars Down To The World
Rating: R
Warning(s): Domestic Violence, Character Death (not our pair), Substance Abuse.
Prompt: Hermione creates a potion just for Severus, one which he doesn’t believe he wants or needs (SS/HG or SS & HG).
Finally, I give yo:
A Green Thought In A Green Space. This is a collaboration between myself and MyWitch. On LiveJournal, Mywitch created an Advent Calendar of fanart delicious enough to warm the cockles of every heart. She took our requests, and gave us a daily delight of incredible art, full of joy, silliness, poignancy, cheer and love. She is so immensely talented. When I whispered in her ear MY request, she said, “Why don’t you write the fic, and I’ll illustrate?” It is a time-turner story, which I love but am a little afraid of, and it's also slash.
It was also too much fun to pass up.
A special thanks to the Queen of Betas, Stgulik, for making this story better because that’s what she does so wonderfully well. Also, thank you to Mywitch, for being such a beautiful, talented friend, who encouraged me to write this. You are so incredibly gifted and generous and talented, and I’m honored to be your friend.
The title comes from the TV series The Tudors. I don’t remember the context; I just liked the way it sounded.
VERY NSFW.

Date: 2017-01-02 07:18 am (UTC)Let's hope for a better year this time around. Although I would say that 2016 was pretty kind to you in the writing arena. All three of these were wonderful. I will say that the SS/PP/PP one was my favorite. I'm not even sure exactly why. I think that it was just an unusual pairing for me, but you made it feel so right. Just the right amount of both emotion and sex, and it had a somewhat exotic feel to it. Anyway, I suppose it is my duty to go read it again, just to be sure I made an accurate assessment. 😀

I snowflaked on Snowflake too, last year when AR split. Gah, I can't believe it's nearly a year he's been gone. I can't do it this year cuz I'll be out of town for the end. I love reading the entries though! And I love to see people reccing their own things.
Love you babe! ❤️❤️❤️
