After a small age and several weeks of faffing around, TheHubs™ and I finished the south wing, AKA the little alcove that leads to the other rooms. All we really need is to nail down the beading on the floor and we can stick a fork in that project.

I have to say, I've learned more about angles in doing this project than in the entire two years of high school geometry. One of the side walls was slightly out of true at the entrance to the area, and it took us forever to work it out. The other ones were easy.

I realise placing white beading on the floor was a strange move but I loved the contrast from the floor and the white doors. We have a couple of white 'floating' shelves we want to place on one of the walls, but we just need to find the right thing to put on them.

I've learned more about DIY during all this than I ever thought I'd need to know. TheHubs™ has been amazing - he just does everything, and what he doesn't know how to do, he just knuckles down and learns it. A couple of weeks ago he told me that after this project he 'wanted to take a break' from it, but tonight we were in the bedroom and he said, "I think it would be a piece of cake to put laminate in here next." It's a square room, so none of the crazy angles and multiple corners of the SteamLib and the alcove.

I'm still sending out the query letters - at least one or two a day. I'm hearing nothing back so far after the first two rejections. One wasn't taking submissions at this time, the other couldn't get into the story. On we go. Rejection and no response is tough, but I'll just keep trying. In the meantime, we continue to work on the house and I contnue to edit Book two. It's all I know to do.

Has anyone heard from [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith lately? I haven't heard from her in quite awhile. I hope you're ok, delph!

To all my Con-bound friends - I hope you have a whale of a time - I'm envious, but all I really want is for it to be a grand experience for you all.

That alcove looks really nice! It's quite a feeling of accomplishment to get something like that done.

Thank you! We're pretty happy about it - we've just been so lazy throughout the years. It's nice to do something nice for the house.

Oh it's lovely, Teddy! And they say you never use that math in the real world! You showed them!

Be wishing you were there! Want a postcard? I'll send you one!

Your DIY project looks fabulous and I've enjoyed all the pics along the way.

I emailed Del awhile back and she was being overwhelmed with work and RL family stuff. I just went back and checked though and realized that was over two months ago. I hope everything is all right with her.

Good luck on the querys and don't get discouraged, think of all the stories we hear about authors who were rejected again and again and went on to become best sellers. :)

Thanks for the update on Del. Thank you for the encouragement. It's quite frustrating to send our query letters. It's like pouring your heart out to a empty phone.

What a beautiful transformation! You and Trev can be rightly proud of what you accomplished! And it probably is a good thing that you have these renovations to do right now, as it will help keep your mind occupied while waiting for responses to your letters. If you have trouble thinking positive, and worry is your default mode (as it seems to be with me!), then it's good to have some busy work. The positive feelings you have about the results of that can carry over into other things.

Yes. I need all the positivity I can get right now. It's very hard to pour your heart and soul into something and stay proud of it when all you get is radio silence.

Thank you - TheHubs™ was apprehensive to say the least - being a reserved Englishman. But he agreed that it was a great colour to break up all those white doors.

I think it all looks great! You and your husband did a fabulous job. I'm no good at DIY projects so I have great admiration for those who take them on and do such a nice job with them. :D

Thank you - I'm not too hot at them either, but I'm good at holding things still when they're being sawed off and I wield a mean paint roller.

WOW!!!!!! What a transformation!!! It looks so warm and inviting.

I feel you on the geometry. Sewing has plenty of math, too, and it makes me wish I'd payed more attention. ;D
