Well, it's been a day.
We had the opportunity to pick up a lovely chair for the SteamLib. It was on Craigslist for $55, and it's very sturdy and rather old, I'd say Mid '40's or '50's. It is dry as can be, so we have some wood restoration oil to brighten it up:

It has this humungous spring on the bottom; they truly 'don't make 'em like this anymore'. It needs some joints tighening, and a lot of TLC, but it's a welcome addition.
TheHubs™ turned me on to 'Embroidery Music' today. It's music placed on a Regina or music box wheel, and it's charming and whimsical and very sweet. You can listen to it HERE. I found it captivating.
We finished painting the hallway, and plan to start on the flooring there tomorrow. We have lots of little projects that are coming along nicely. I had a really nice experience today on Society6, a site that takes original artwork (although 'original' is sometimes only in the loosest sense) and places it on everything from iphone cases to pillow cases. They also do rugs, which we need for our chairs (like the one above).
One of the artists, Eric Fan, has a lot of steampunk-themed art, including This, this and this, and they can be made into rugs. I really wanted the Chimney Sweep as a rug, but he didn't have it listed as such, only prints. I got up the nerve to email him and ask if he would be willing to make the Chimney Sweep art available as a rug. He wrote the nicest note and agreed immediately. What a nice guy. We are planning on purchasing a couple of the 3' X 5' rugs. We can't right now, because we just can't afford them, but it's our wish to do that eventually.
Word continues to be stressful and upsetting, but I don't want to discuss it - I don't want to pile on anymore angst in my life right now, so I'm avoiding talking/reading/writing things that will bring me down right now.
Called to wish the Mother a Happy Mother's Day. We are taking her out to lunch tomorrow. Everywhere that she likes to eat was so crowded today it was impossible to eat out in our area, so we agree tomorrow would be better. It's nice seeing my mom content and happy. She lives alone and seems to enjoy it.
I finished my play evaluations. I was asked to evaluate 5 plays for Centre Stage this year, and while it was very flattering to be asked, I don't know if I can stomach it next year. Of the five, only one was remotely palatable. One was incomprehensible, one was so violent it gave me the heebie jeebies and that's saying a lot, one was so dull I couldn't believe anyone could write it, and the other was so full of anger and bile it made me apprehensive for the playwright's health. All in all, not the most pleasant experience. It only served to remind me again that I am surrounded by excellent writers, and 'out there' isn't necessarily where the great writers are.
I'm taking advantage of Netflix's free month and watching old episodes of Mission: Impossible. I'm developing such a crush on Peter Graves. What a long, tall, silver-haired daddy he was.
Well, that's enough babbling from me. I've had a bottle of wine, and I'm mellow, but not completely - work is bothering the periphery of my head too much for me to truly relax. I hope everyone has a lovely evening! xxoo
