LiveJournal hates me this evening. Just trying to upload a bunch of pics and it doesn't want to work. Let's try it in two parts, then. I decided to try and take some closeups of the decs to show some of the details of my trees. Thank you for indulging a houseproud woman.

I love this little Cheers! ornament, as well as the Krispy Kreme one in the background. We have an identical large version of this ornament as part of the Christmas village. We didn't put up the village this year - it's too labour intensive to do every year.

Trying to insert a little Steampunk into the decs. I also like the blue and silver snowball to the right.

I bought this mini-Charlie Chaplin ornament in the mid-80's, and he has taken pride of place on every tree I've decorated since.

The crown came from a little Christmas shop near London Bridge, and the key, well, I'm Teddy Radiator. I have keys.

More English Christmas ornaments, as well as the Coca-Cola bear, complete with a cold one in his left paw.

This happy little snowman head is one of our favourites. You can't really see the blush on his little cheeks, but he's so sweet.

This is my original Elf on the Shelf. It was given to me by my kindergarten teacher when I was five. Poor little guy is more darning and patching than he is solid nowadays. He has these little warbling chime/bells inside and they sound very sweet when you (very gently) shake him. That's Hedwig on the stack of books beside him.

When I left the UK to move back here, a dear friend of mine gave me this Marmite ornament because she wanted me to have something that reminded me of the UK, as if I needed any reminder of my special years there. It's an actual jar that's been flattened.

TheHubs™ bought me this bag of Bertie Botts Beans at BHS the year the first movie came out. I wouldn't take a million dollars for it.

Some toys sitting 'neath the tree. The Santa on the right was my first Christmas present.
2014 Christmas Tree Detail 10s

A closeup of my Elf on the Shelf. I think he has loads more personality than the newer ones, even if he's threadbare.

My German pickle, an Elizabethan woman I got at the Tower of London, and the white bauble to her right was a gift from a tea shop patron. We had this tree in the shop, full of gorgeous ornaments, and our customers often gave us ornaments as gifts to add to it.

Even though I don't do Christmas, I really enjoyed seeing your trees with all their ornaments. I like that each ornament has a story behind it; that's so much lovelier than just buying boxes of stuff that's all matchy-matchy. It has warmth and it says "Teddy".

Thank you sweetie. Even though I no longer profess any religious beliefs, I still love decorating, more for the memory that each decoration brings to me. Some remind me of moments in my life which weren't the happiest times, but nevertheless they are important moments for what they did to mold me into the person I am. Christmas has always been a time of retrospection for me, I suppose because it's the only time I have these reminders of the past on display.

I love hearing the stories people tell about the keepsakes that mean so much to them. I have very few actual keepsakes from my childhood (mostly pictures), but the memories still live in my heart.

You know that nobody in Germany does/knows about that pickle thing?

When I lived in America everybody was so eager to show me their pickle when I visited during the Christmas period and it took me ages to understand what they were on about.

*proud*: "This is our pickle."

*totally bewildered*: "Okay? Er..."
