Trying To Pace Myself
May. 25th, 2013 07:42 pmThat's the thing about recharged batteries - you run the risk of wearing them out all the faster. I spent so much of the past four months (well, let's face it, since January, really), trying to ready myself for MISTI-Con, and everything else got put on the back burner or covered in cling film and stuck on the bottom shelf of the fridge in the back. I literally was writing nothing in March or April, even though I was well aware of obligations I have at the end of this month. Even my novels edits were starting to make zero sense to me. I remember reading the latest chapter the week before Con, and literally not being able to concentrate long enough to even get the gestalt of it.
I allowed myself the week following Con to recuperate, and adjust to our new work schedule. I have been gradually weaning myself off Facebook, which can be a real Life Eater, and I looked at the first 500 or so words I'd written for my promptfest entry, and thought, okay, this makes sense. It is now done (10,000 more words later) and at the cleaners, waiting for
stgulik to put a shiny on it.
I owe
christev a BINGO fic, which is partially done, and Lay Me Low, which is partially done. Next Month, Jules and I start on Teh Sekwul, which is thrilling. I'm so damn proud of her work lately. She's going to make some Prompter very happy with her prompfest entry.
When I returned from Con, we realised that due to lots of rain and mild weather, our back yard was starting to look like something out of The Borrowers. We were losing our cats in the dark out there. We called in a Lawn guy, who took one look and said (and this must be done in a whiney, Southern good old boy voice), "This grass is too high! I'd ruin my lawn mower blade." I thanked him for his time and politely told him that if his lawn equipment was so delicate, we would be forced to hire some goats to do it. The Hubs went and bought a weed eater and is going through those dandelions and other assorted weeds like buttah. Ruin my lawn mower blade, my arse. He was just afraid there might be snakes but was too pansy to admit it. Pussy.
It does have our allergies going haywire, but hey, it's gotta be done. I will make the Hubs many lovely dishes and peel him grapes and serve him elf-made wine for this. He's working his backside off out there. At least this year we don't have to face this with a two-inch gap between our wall and the foundations. That seems to be holding up rather well, thank goodness, but if it doesn't? Hey, that's what life-time guarantees are for.
The Hubs also bought me the Ultimate Edition of 'Year 7', with both DH films and tons of extras. We now have the entire Ultimate Edition series, and hope to be able to sit down and watch the extras soon. It's got tons I don't think we've seen. I'm a real Behind-The-Scenes kinda gal, so this is right up my street.
For those who have asked for a transcription of the talk I gave at MISTI-Con, I think I may have enough to make into some sort of book. It would be a small booklet, really, but I'm still putting it together. Watch this space.
Well, I think I've rambled on long enough. If you've made it here and haven't yet lost the will to live, I thank you! Hugs to all my dear friends - you guys are my life-support system. I really do depend on you to keep me sane, and you always deliver. MWAH!

Date: 2013-05-26 12:18 am (UTC)It's like DMuse watched all the craziness and said, "Okay, sweetie, have your fun, and when you get back, we'll get jiggy."
And we have ;)

Date: 2013-05-26 02:16 am (UTC)I still check on a couple of times a day, but I always shut it down shortly after. It's made a huge difference to my creative output this week!
