My friend [livejournal.com profile] voxangelus reminded her f-list today of the SED. Something Every Day that a few of us did last September or so. It is a personal commitment to find something (preferably positive) every day, and write it down in your journal. I remember feeling like it was very therapeutic when I did it in September, and I think it might be a good idea for me for the next month or so. My job, which is supposed to be around 25 hours per week, is sitting at a whopping 52 hours of scheduled projects this week. I have spent from 8am to 6pm today standing on the cement floor of a Wal-Mart today, with no break, and while I appreciate the money in the end (and the fact that I have a job at all), I am already exhausted and it's not even Tuesday yet. Worse for me is that when I work days like this, I have absolutely no energy to write or work on my con talk or costume or knit. I'm so sorry; I realise how self-centred and petty that sounds, but those are my sanity preservers, and I miss doing them. Thankfully, I got a decent headstart on the costume before this madness started, and my boss is supposed to drop two stores from our list, so things should loosen up in the next couple of weeks. If they don't, I'll go spare.

So, my SED for Monday, March 11, 2013: I completed a very difficult and physically demanding project, and I've soaked my tired old bones in the world's hottest shower. There's a bag of peanut M&Ms with my name on each one, and a favourite old fanfic beckons from my Kindle to read in bed and get in an early night. The Hubs' play is over (I'm sorry we couldn't meet up, [livejournal.com profile] sandlappershell, but I couldn't get tickets for that night), and life feels a little more normal.

Oh, and I forgot! My awesome friend [livejournal.com profile] jenidralph created my own MIni Manga Me. I had professed great jealousy over hers and [livejournal.com profile] toblass' Manga girls, so what did Jen do? Created one for me. I'm so tired I forgot to include it.

LilMangaTeddy

I think I'm one darn cute manga. This is the me that nobody sees except one, and he sees me like this every day, and has for lifetimes.

I leave you with music from my new favourite band of steam-driven robots, Steam Powered Giraffe, which is a SED all by itself. It's a sweet song about finding your way home, and it always makes my heart soar. Here is a live version of the song. It's not the best audio, but you can totally get it. It's a song that has a 'Gene Autry' feel. Very down to earth and comfortable, like a warm pair of slippers. I can't say enough good about these darling guys.

It's a great song which reminds us that home is, after all, what you love, no matter where it is. The last two lines always make me tear up: "If we all look towards what we miss most and keep that drive in our heart, Well, That'll  be the way home..."

A man takes off from an airfield and he's a'soaring very far from home 'cause he flies a B-17 straight through the sky
He's homesick and he knows it'll be a long time till he's done and he's got a beautiful girl waiting at home

He opens up a letter from her. She writes, here's a color picture of me (a pretty picture)
Just head towards my blue eyes, when you're finding your way back to me

Well, That'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll That'll be the way home
Yes, That'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll That'll be the way home
Straight through the sky headed towards her blue eyes

A lieutenant of the Navy took his very first steps today Onto the ship that would become his new home
He and his wife had shared a very special goodbye when they kissed in the night underneath a star of their own

As the lieutenant gazed up and saw their star shining bright (oh so bright)
He knew it would guide him home when the time was right

Well, That'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll That'll be the way home
Yes, That'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll That'll be the way home

Starin' into the night Keeping their star in sight

All you infantry men and you riveting gals don't ever need to give up hope
all you doctors, and nurses, and engineers need not worry for long
If we all look towards what we miss most and keep that drive in our heart

Well, That'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll that'll That'll be the way home

Don't worry...

It's not petty or selfish to feel the way you do. That's what exhaustion does. Enjoy your rest my dear and be happy.

Sleep well, darling. Your MIni Manga Teddy is cute as hell!

Thank you for introducing me to this band of steam-driven robots. Even an old fart like me can love them.

They are so lovable, aren't they? I just want to pet "The Spine", he's so cute. And I feel a lot better this morning after my power shower!

The manga reminds me of Lily Evans, blond. No insult intended. It could be of me when my moptop is bleached. I have green eyes (mostly) too. Poor Severus doesn't know which way to turn. Good idea of SED but I'm just not the type to do it. Fully enjoying your encounters with SPG.

Maybe YOUR SED could stand for something Sarcastic Every Day. Oh, wait... you already DO that.... *snerk*

I want to see 'sarcastic every day'!!!!

I'd hate to be sarcastic every day, really doesn't suit my personality at al... ;)

Oh, but I DO love it when you touchy-feely personalities play against type! ;)

None taken, Ma'am. It's a pretty accurate assessment of me, to be honest - wild hair, green eyes (mine are pure green, which is my one vanity), and strange mouth.

Glad you're enjoying SPG. They hit a deep chord within, so I know they were sent by the Muse to inspire me.

NO worries, dear Teddie, we WILL get together I just know it!! I understand the work thing. Walmart floors are horrible on the feet and knees. I am a vendor in Wally, 2 Dollar Generals, a Dollar Tree, and a Bilo. Also had a Food Lion, but they closed last month! Projects can be a killer for sure, but it is nice to have the extra cash! Hopefully I will be finished with my certification soon, and I will be sitting down making people's vacation dreams come true!! Love to you, dear. See you soon!

There you go - you know my pain! Between us, the Hubs and I have seven Wallies right now, but we are supposed to drop two, if Head Office will pull their finger out and catch up. I'll be so glad. The money's nice, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

Don't you worry, you'll have that certification soon, and you'll be making people happy and excited, instead of stocking shelves - much more rewarding! ;)

And yes, we will get together soon. I just hated I couldn't last week, but when things get a little more back to normal, I promise we'll get stuff done!

*coughs and nearly chokes*

Er... it's okay for her to be innocent looking. She's supposed to be a young!Teddy. ;) I'm sure Teddy was innocent at SOME point.

She kind of looks like a Kewpie doll to me. XD

Wal Mart is required by law to give you a specific amount of break per specific amounts of time working. So for every three hours, you would presumably get a 15, for every 8 you would get at least a half an hour, in some states an hour. I worked for a retailer who gave us one half hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks to be spread out in order to relieve our legs. They HAD to. :( So you were ripped off. Not cool.

Well, I don't actually work for Wal-Mart - I'm a Merchandiser who works IN Walmart, so it's self-inflicted, I'm afraid. To tell the truth, we were working so feverishly, I didn't realise what time it was until I asked the Hubs, and it was 9 hours later. No wonder we were both dropping in our tracks. Today promises to be a lot easier on us.

Don't worry. You'll get done exactly what needs to get done, even if it's not everything on your list. Take good care and we'll be here when you get off of work!

Thanks, babe. I feel a little better this morning, though sloooooow out of the starting gate. Today is very light, the rest of the week not so much. Between the two of us, we have a lot of work to cram into this week.

He does, doesn't he? I have just recently got into the 'Steampunk' look, and it occurred to me that 'Teddy Radiator' is a pretty steampunk name - I honestly never thought of it that way before (I was named after a bunny rabbit). When I found this little fella, I knew I'd found my icon soulmate.
