Okay, I finished my first attempt at drawing something last week, and in a fit of bravado (and the anticipation of a couple of margaritas at our local Mexican restaurant later), I'm screwing my courage to the sticking place and posting my drawing.

I learned alot just from this first attempt. One, I'm no good at hair, and two, I have a lot to learn in general. There are things about it I like, and things I hope will improve, but the first song I wrote bears little resemblance to the stuff I'm writing now, and I hope the same will eventually be said for my drawing.

I'm hoping I don't sound like the biggest berk in the world when I say I think I've got some potential for improvement. Thanks to everyone, by the way, who encouraged me to give it a try. It was, as [livejournal.com profile] mimimanderly says, relaxing and for the most part fun.

Sweetie, for a first attempt, it is amazing! My first attempts look like child scrawls. The more you do it, the faster you improve. I really like the features on his face! You got them aligned nicely! As you master the things you do well and gain confidence, you will start practicing different techniques for the things you have yet to learn. Then you will master these new techniques and go on to practice others... and so on. The acquiring of new skills never ends. That's what keeps it new and exciting!

I can't wait to see what you do next!

Thanks, Mimi darling. I'm pretty happy with it, for a first attempt, but I'm already eager to try another one.

Damn, I can't draw at all, so this looks absolutely wonderful to me! :-)

It looks great! It doesn't make you sound like a berk at all, it makes it sound as if you are enjoying it and want to get on with even more.

You've captured a real tenderness in the moment!

It's gorgeous! I love Hermione's face--there's strength in the features, but in a moment of vulnerability. Very, very nice. :)

This is fantastic! I think it looks wonderful! An individual is often their harshest critic. You can see flaws that I don't even notice when you point them out. I think his hair looks as if it was mussed during a particularly good session that obviously wore Hermione out. I thought it was beautiful! You did a great job! I can't wait to see more!

I think it's remarkable. Seriously, if I could draw that well, I'd never do anything else. I particularly like how well you captured AR in Severus.

I tried to open this yesterday but my computer was playing up so have only just managed to see it. You have captured a really tender moment. I like Hermione's head hanging down and her hair tumbling.

Don't ever apologise for doing something creative. Just go for it and see what happens. I hope this was a really rewarding experience for you.

It was, and very relaxing. I've been a bit lazy as of late with my current fic, and I felt like the Muse was saying, "Well, for heaven's sake, do Something!"

Hopefully I can wade through this awful chapter of LML and fix it. It's just not gone anywhere in almost two weeks, and I've got to get through it. another 'constipation' chapter...grrrr..

You do better than i can. I photomanip =)

Photomaniping is a 'mechanical' skill. It's not like music, which requires some sort of something that I lack. (coordination? attention span?)

Skills like sewing and maniping are fairly quick to pick up, especially with a class and repeated efforts and projects. I could probably do knitting and crocheting but that isnt something I want to do right now, but it is something I could learn and get good at within a year.

If that's your fist attempt at drawing, then you have a bright future as an artist. You've got a good eye for proportions and the facial features are wonderful.
