I started my new job yesterday - yay! It was not nearly as traumatic as I was afeared. Actually, it suits me to the ground: part time, flexible hours, on my own. The boss is a nice guy who's been with the company for 20 years, is very laid back and down to earth - cares about the company but isn't a See You Next Tuesday about it. The toughest part will be disciplining myself to log all my time preparing for work at home. They are very generous about paying you for it and the paper you use and the time travelled, and I have never had to keep up with that stuff before.

Stepson is coming to visit a week from Saturday, so no hanging around typing in my nightshirt for awhile. Although he hasn't said it, The Hubs has really backed off job hunting until James has been and gone. I don't blame him, really. He doesn't get to see his kids but once in a blue moon. Plus our windfall from Angel Gary means that we aren't going to suffer while James is here either.

Oh dear. The Hubs just came stumbling in to tell me I'd forgotten to turn off the alarm. NOT amused to be woken at 7:30 for no good reason - especially with a bijou hangover from a trip to a local restaurant to see our friend Chris Branch last night. I was on the coke and water, being designated driver. Oops. I think I'll let him sleep awhile...

I signed up for Exchange Bingo. I'm so excited about the Exchange it's indecent, but the idea of all my favourite writers with new fics simply pouring out of my laptop for the next two weeks is enough to make anyone's mouth water. Still no word from Pottermort (to quote [livejournal.com profile] sempraseverus), but Chapter 24 of Lay Me Low is finished and ready for [livejournal.com profile] stgulik's magic touch. After the trauma in the last chapter, this one is almost mellow.

03 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favourite characters to write?

Star Trek: Chakotay and B’Elanna Torres, Highlander: I loved writing Methos – very Snapish in character (jaded, sarky, sexy and brooding), and of course, in Harry Potter: Severus Snape and Hermione Granger. I also, for some reason, like to write Poppy Pomfrey. I’ve liked that character since PoA. I forgot to mention I also write Fresme fanfic (with apologies to [livejournal.com profile] howlingmojo), and love getting inside the head of Frollo, who is really Severus in about thirty years or so.

Well, now that I'm awake, I think I'll just get ready and go on to work. Sooner begun, the sooner done. Wow. I've never gotten to say that before. I like it!

Thank you for your kind wishes! I was tag-teaming with Mosey on the final bits of ABC's and it's her turn to do "B" so I'll do "C" afterwards....hmmm C has soooo many possibilities!

Well, they say there is nothing new under the sun, and I wouldn't doubt it - folks have been trying to improve sex as long as they've been doing it, I think!

Hee hee, Pottermort. :-)

I smiled to see mention of Methos. I haven't thought about him in ages. My archaeologist friends used to play a game called "Things That Are Older Than Methos" ("cuneiform!").

Congratulations on the new job!

I'm sure there is some great Duncan/Methos slash out there somewhere! I liked his ambiguity; the way you never were sure if he was one of the good guys or not. And I loved the episodes with long hair - I thought he was sexy and sin.

Thank you, by the way - it's physically trying right now because I'm in such crap shape physically, but I'll get there!

I'm so happy for you in your new job! It sounds perfect for you. My job could be done from home quite easily, but the culture of the office features a real paranoia when it comes to letting employees out of their sight. More's the pity.

I just caught up with my never-ending Dramoine beta, and am ready for LML 24 ...

I am going to try and send it tonight. It's very anti-climatic from the previous one, but everyone needed a breather, and there's a question of where to end it, which I'll leave in your hands. How's Dolores Umbridge going?

Well, the Dramione was languishing, so I beta'd the latest three chapters last night and sent them back. (The author is on Chapter 43 now. There is no end in sight.) Tonight I'll get back to Dolores. I'm on Part 4.

I shouldn't laugh. I feel that way about LML. I know where it's going, it just gets a little bogged down sometimes getting there - but hey! That's where you come in and trim the hedges!

I'm fairly well into chapter 25 as well. Once I settle in with my job a little more, I'll get my routine going. I'm going to finish lay me low soon if it kills me. That's why I didn't offer anything new for the Exchange Bingo - I offered bound editions and eBooks and podfics, but no new stuff. I still feel sick with guilt everytime I think of Droxy's fic languishing from January.

I'd love to participate in the Bingo, but I'm not sure yet what I should offer.

And any similarities between the Dramione and LML is purely coincidental. Just please believe me on this. Completely different beast, that one is.

LOL I re-read that and cringed - I had meant to say two months, but it was early and I hadn't had caffeine. I'm so ready for it is isn't funny - I honestly think I'm more excited about this than when the books were launched.

Whew! Just a brain blip then. Your allowed. Its lack-o-Snape that is causing this problem. WHY can't I have a time turner so it can be 9/6? WHY?

I am SO glad that the job is going well for you and that you like it. And for selfish reasons, I am glad that you still have time for writing and consorting with your cohorts at LJ. I would miss you terribly if you "owed your soul to the company store"....

Yes, right now, I'm tired because I'm having to physically DO something, but as I get a little more limber, I'll be more confident and things will get done easier. The first day was a piece of cake - today was tough because the store itself was messy, and tomorrow's won't be too bad, but Sunday will be another killer.

I have to remind myself that I've spent the last 5 months sitting on my tush and doing nothing, so yeah, the back hurts from bending and stooping and stretching, but hey, I'll get used to it.

BTW, the Sempra Deck shipped yesterday, so cross fingers - I hope it will look as good as it did online! If so, I'll get more ordered.

Okay! If it looks good, let me know how much it will be, and I'll let you know how many I need. Perhaps I should ask my f-list who wants a deck of tarot cards as well, even though I'm nowhere near finished cutting them, let alone laminating.

off the topic of your post, but what the hell, I wanted to say that having recorded several chapters of CoMC, I've been rewarding myself by listening to the others, and I love love love listening to you read aloud. So perfect.

Oh, thank you so very much! I have 3 more chapters to read, but between having a bit of a scratchy throat and not sounding well, and our laptop being temperamental, I haven't pulled my share lately. I hope when I get settled in a bit, I can get those finished off.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comments - that really made my day!

I told Mia I think we should have a blooper tape--I sent her a 10-second clip of me trying to say "bubotuber pus" without tripping over my tongue or bursting out laughing.

Woo hoo! for the new job! It sounds wonderful, Teddy. I'm so glad you like it.

When it comes to keeping up with time, what I did, and supplies used for a project, a lot of us at work use Journals that are sewn and bound with numbered pages. It's easy to jot down the date and time, and make a note of what I did and how it worked. I like the 300 page ones like this:

Wilson Jones Account Book Journal:

http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/177212/Account-Book-Journal-11-34-x/#firstTab

They run about $35, but they are sturdy as hell and last a long time. I keep it with me when I'm working on a special project and just jot notes to myself when there are things that I want to remember or I'm afraid I'll forget a little (but important) detail. That way I have everything I need to "recreate" the methods I tried and what worked and what was a dismal failure, how long it took and the supplies needed to do the job. Makes method writing a snap when all the ducks are lined up.

Having James come for a visit is a blessing to look forward to. How long will he be able to stay? Thank goodness the worst of the hot weather seems to be over. I love fall here in the South. A truly lovely time of the year!

As for Pottermort, it seems that making their October 1st premier date will take a little doing. I'd love to have gotten my Welcome email, but alas I think probably will end up being one of the "cow's tails" and only get it when everybody else has gotten theirs.

Chapter 24: Squeeeeeee!!!!! I can't wait to see what happens next.

Have a Happy Work Day!

Thank you so much - I'm slowly but surely finding everything I need to do the job. Just getting back to doing physical stuff is a challenge - I've been sitting on my arse doing nothing for almost 5 months, so it will take awhile to get back to doing something.

I'm so glad it's working out for you! That's always the biggest anxiety giver: What's it going to be like once I'm in there? It's so great that you have an easy place to work. I hope it always stays that way for you.

On the other hand - Ugh. Pottermort. I got a "Suprise, you're getting in early!" email, but I'm with you. I don't think I'll be getting any earlier than October anyway. Do you check the updates on the Pottermore insider? It's here if you're interested:

Yeah, it's quite good so far - I'm sure I'll have moments, like every job, but the hardest part right now is just getting back used to moving around again. I've been embarrassingly sedentary for the past 5 months.

I'm so happy you are enjoying your new job! Let's just hope it stays that way in a few months! Keeping track at home will become second nature soon. But it sounds like its a great job and I am very excited for you!

Thanks, babe. Right now it feels physical tough but that's because I have done virtually nothing but sit at my laptop for the past 4 months! Now I'm having to move around and bend and stoop and stretch! It's a little intimidating, and I just hope I'm doing the right thing!

I know the feeling. I didn't do anything for a year before I found this job and there isn't a page long enough for me to list all my aches and pains. But soon your body will get used to it again, you just have to wait it out until it does.

Congrats on the new job!

I've been out of the work environment for about 6years now (at first willingly.. and now I'm just freaked out by the job market) Several of my friends are out of work or having trouble finding work.. some have moved out of the area (or out of the state/country) to find something better.

Anyway it's nice to hear something positive!
