I was just brewing my coffee this morning - oh, who am I kidding - I was just popping a pod into the beloved Keurig, silently apologising to Irishredlass for being the coffee Philistine that I am, when 'bam!' the Muse gave me the entire rest of Lay Me Low. it all rushed into my head like it had been fuel-injected.

I knew the direction I wanted the story to take, but there was something in the back of my mind, a little niggling feeling that I was missing something - so there I am, yawning, scratching my stomach, waffling between the Timothy Horton's Winter Carnival or the Dark Roast Hazelnut, and there it was. Beautifully wrapped up and tied with a little, neat bow of green and silver. The one plot point that would sum up the entire story, give everyone's motivations justification and notch up the drama to boiling point.

It also didn't hurt that yesterday, Sempra, my visual Muse, drew one of the most devastatingly beautiful works of art I've ever seen based on the fic. AND is sending me the signed original. That made me sleep like a baby last night, and now the way ahead is smooth and clear. I have the best friends.

So, you see, Irishredlass, pod coffee has its benefits. It makes my Muse very excited, apparently. I will think of you fondly every time I reach for the Caribou medium roast. And I hope you have a safe trip and that you and Droxy make some really, really cool stuff this week.

I don't know mel. I read your Cold Feet challenge and just melted into a puddle, thinking how wonderful it would be to be able to say so much in a drabble. I think you are a magnificent writer (I'm crazy about your D/s fic Needs Must. I love writing D/s fiction and this is just right up my street. You will finish it - it is MY WILL!!! lol)

I know you will just get right back into Muse's saddle soon. You're too good not to. I just have to be patient.

thank you - but at the moment I just open the file, stare at the page, write a bit, erase it then go and do something else. My mind is on too many other things

Caffeine is caffeine. I would never criticize your favorite brew, no matter how you made it. And if it somehow gives you the perfect inspirational moment for a fic, it's that much better. Hmmm, maybe I should expand my coffee and tea repertoire, and perhaps my inspiration to write might flow a bit more easily.

Well, as a tea expert and owner of a tea room, it does seem a bit weird that I love coffee just as much, but hey, the Muse told me what to do. All I gotta do now is just sit back and let him drive.

Hey, if a Muse like yours prefers coffee pods, there must some good in them (says the Brit who uses about one spoon of instant coffee a month, dissolved in milk, so it could be worse)

Well, I have been known to make instant coffee by adding hot water from the tap, so don't feel bad!

Keurigs are magical. Anyone who says different just doesn't have one and should borrow one of mine! (yea, I have two.) :)

Squeeeee! Teddy loves keurigs...the Hubs surprised me at Christmas, and it's been a morning ritual ever since. They are great in every way!

Isn't that GREAT when that happens? That seems to be my MO for writing:
1. Read prompt.
2. Immediately cry out, "WTF am I supposed to do with THAT?"
3. Go about my morning chores, i.e., feeding parrots, making coffee, etc.
4. In the midst of chores, suddenly be mentally walloped with the ENTIRE drabble.
5. Write it down, transcribe it, edit it,send it in.

This entire procedure usually takes about an hour or so, unless I get carried away with the writing, and then have to cut half of it to fit the word count. And it seems to happen this way all the time. I can only guess that the Muse already has the story he wants me to write, and is just waiting for my mind to blank out from the numbing boredom of mindless chores, so that he can quickly slam that story into my mind while my inner monologue is silent for once.

That's a good description for it! It just hit me right between the eyes. I told the Hubs, and he just stood there, staring at me, his eyes as big as saucers. Then he proceeded to tell him how to use the moment to its most dramatic effect and how to ramp up the tension. It was a nice, collaborative effort. My wine-cork board is done, and my writer's nook is coming together. I think I told you I found the perfect frame for your drawing and the Muse looks dead sexy in it.

I personally think he and Dahlra were doing a little tag-teaming on 'The Encounter'. I just kept getting this other, sort of aggressive feeling about the whole thing, and Dahlra kept softening it. It was quite funny!

It may be the case. I greatly suspect that these drawings can act as a conduit somehow. At least the ones I've done where I can feel that he's had a hand in it. This one most definitely was one of them.

We have a Keurig at work, and I currently enjoy a cup of Tim Horton's Winter Carnival coffee just about everyday. It's a lot quicker (and cheaper) than going to Caribou, buying my bag of Obsidian, and brewing the coffee at home. Although to be fair to Irish, I've had her coffee and it is good. I'm just lazy and cheap.

BTW, congrats on getting the answer to your plot questions.

Thanks! I've never had Obsidian coffee, but Irish has mentioned it before. It must be pretty special stuff. As tea is my area of expertise, I can bore you to death in about 30 countries on different teas, but coffee is just a thing I do because I like it. The Winter Carnival is really good, I think.

SNicker! It sounds like Keurig does way more exciting pods than Senseo, but then I practically stopped using it when it got near impossible to find the pods with cappuccino topping without ordering ten boxes at a time and paying shipping from the Netherlands, though I do keep contemplating this package, even though I don't like weak coffee, and I'm not huge on medium either. I have no idea why it appeals so much... smirk! Me, an overgrown kid?
