Just heard that Amy Winehouse was found dead today. Age 27. Probable drug overdose. While I hate to see waste of any kind, this is just doubly sad. And serves to show that fame, money and celebrity can't make the demons go away - if anything, it attracts them. I just keep thinking: wasted potential. RIP, you foolish, pitiful girl. You should have taken your own advice.

Definitely very sad, and as you say, a waste. What's even more depressing is that, when mum told me that she had died, I wasn't in the least bit surprised. Does no one learn from others' mistakes anymore??

That is exactly what the Hubs said. While it's sad, it wasn't unexpected. What do you do if a person decides not to help themselves. A sad waste. I feel for her Dad, who tried so hard, it seems to do right by her.

That poor girl. You see so many famous young people wreck themselves, yet others seem to be able to achieve some sort of mental balance that lets them take their fame in stride. I wonder sometimes what those more balanced people have in common - good parenting, sensible moral systems, an inner strength?

Too bad she wasn't familiar with procedures to help herself like Dialectical Behavioural Therapy or even a simple iPod app like Hello Cruel World. She might have stood a chance. Maybe she blew every chance, but the wages of fear and depression should never be death.

It wasn't surprising. Fame and fortune neither MAKE a person happy, nor can it MAKE them miserable. True happiness is not based on external factors. If a person was not happy when they were poor and unsuccessful, they will be no happier when they finally have wealth and success.

My prediction on the next person to spontaneously combust: Lindsay Lohan. That girl needs some serious help, not a bunch of sycophants enabling her self-destructive behavior.

ITA with your prediction, Mimi. She's just like watching a potential train wreck, isn't she?

It's why she gets so much press; people are basically rubber-necking as they go by the accident scene. The girl certainly has no discernible talent.

Some people are just too fragile... Sad.

It is sad news, made even sadder by the fact that she had been to rehab several times. She had many demons, drink, drugs and reportedly bulimia. It's being reported here in Blighty that her Mum had said that she wouldn't be surprised if she died young. Her Dad did try to help her, but to no avail. The rot seemed to set in when she got married and although said marriage was short lived the damage was done.

RIP Amy, may your demons let you sleep in peace.

While it sucks that a human life was wasted, it is not at all surprising to me.

We all have demons and the difference is the way we handle them. Being in the public eye definitely doesn't help the demons to go away, but at the same time, she had access to plenty of resources to help her.

*sigh!* It's kinda weird, because I've been really getting into that new Adele song "Rolling in the Deep" and I was just asking my DD if that was Amy Winehouse, because it reminded me so much of her...it's almost like this chick was ready to take over her (Winehouse's) spot for that type of music.

yes, sad but not surprising. That girl had been on self-destruct for a long time-aided and abetted by that arse-wipe of a husband.

I have no clue who she was until I started seeing my net news go nuts.

Too bad she committed suicide by addiction.

The world is a special sort of insane right now. There is just too much of too much of too much and folks simply are not taught coping skills.
