The good news is that, after jumping through fiery hoops for two weeks, I was offered the job. The bad news is they neglected to tell me until today that the job is temporary - 90 days. IF, and I don't know how big an IF it is, there are other openings, I could apply for them during the 90 days and get a permanent job.

I am heartsick. I was on the cusp of calling my supervisor and telling her that I would not be returning to the land of COVID. Now, I'm not sure.

The other good news is that another company is interested. They are, in fact, the one I wanted to go with in the first place; they pay a little more, and I think this may be permanent (still waiting on this confirmation). The bad news is that I would have to take what hours are left over, which isn't all that bad. I would be expected to work anywhere from 7am to 11pm (a 9-hour shift), which isn't all that bad. At first I was told it could be overnight, which I just can't do. I'm supposed to get a phone call tomorrow with a time for a video interview. If this position is permanent, I'm going to grab it with both hands.

I guess I'm just bummed because I feel a little conned. There was literally nothing said about the position being temporary for only 90 days. In fact, the original recruiter told me that I would start receiving all these benefits AFTER my 90-day probation was up. I can't quit a job over a 3-month certainty and nothing past that. I just can't. I'm trying to make us more secure, not less.

Wish me luck with job offer #2. If that falls through, I don't think I'll have a choice but go back to what we were doing, and the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach.

UFF. That feels so unfair. Congratulations? And I'm so sorry. :(

I am crossing fingers and toes and eyes for you. I hope the better job is permanent. That was a bit of bait and switch to tell you there was a probationary period as opposed to a temporary job.

The whole 90 day thing is garbage, but I guess maybe you can let the fact that they chose you for the position boost your confidence. I’m a firm believer in things happening for a reason, so I would say that you weren’t meant to have the first job, which means something better is on the horizon. Still, it makes my heart hurt to think for even a minute that you might have to crawl back to your previous job. I’m sending loads of good vibes your way.

Congrats on being chosen, that's always lovely. 😊 Sucks how they approached it though. 😕

And you *were* conned. Really we should say that more often, and more vehemently. That's not on you, that's on them. They knew full well what they were doing when they kept that from you. A multitude of bad experiences, both mine and of friends, has shown me that if an employer behaves that way at the outset, they behave that way in general. Sometimes the in between is comfortable enough that you might not mind, but somewhere down the line... Listen to your gut, and you'll do the right thing for you; guts are surprisingly smart.

Anyway, my fingers are crossed for you that you'll get job #2.

You're absolutely right to be upset and disappointed.

So, SHIT, SHIT, SHIT

This time it goes with capital letters.
I think therein lay our mistake.

Go and grab that interview with both hands!
