Hello, remember me?

I've been lurking around, and answering a couple of entries, but all in all, being a very bad LJ Friend. I've been that friend at the party, sitting in the shadows, drinking red wine and listening into all the conversations, but contributing very little. It's so quiet around here now, and that saddens me, since this used to be my lifeline to my creative world. It saddens me more that I'm contributing to the silence.

We've had loads of guests this summer, and I've loved seeing everyone. [livejournal.com profile] irishredlass spent a few days with us last week, and aside from the stressful Sunday when my car died on us in the middle of nowhere (minor problem, fixed without cost, whew), the time was spent crocheting, cooking and eating, mostly. And yarn shopping. She was able to teach me how to crochet through the basics, and except for the magic ring, which was impossible for me to grasp, I retained it all. I'm working on a huge fluffy afghan, and I'm absurdly proud of myself that I can do a single crochet stitch.

While Irish was here, I finally got up the courage to take my novel to the local bookstore for consideration. My friend Wofford had already taken his new novel there; their policy is to read it, decide if it's a good fit for the store, then keep copies on consignment. I had been putting it off and putting it off, afraid of rejection again, but Irish is pretty formidable when it comes to getting you motivated, so off we went. I wouldn't even let her and TheHubs™ come with me, lest they see me rejected, and I went in, armed with a copy of the book and some promotional stuff (bookmarsk, magnets, postcards).

The nice lady in charge of things asked me to fill in the request, which I did, and while I told her I had quite a few different works in different languages posted online blah blah, she looked through some of the promo stuff. She smiled at one of the reviews, which mentioned a 'dash of kink thrown in', and said, "You know, Wofford was talking about you, and he was so enthused about your book, and we just love Wofford. I'm going to go ahead and approve your book to be sold here."

To say I was thrilled was an understatement. So now I'm featured as one of the local authors at Joe's Place in Greenville. It's a gorgeous bookstore, and I'm proud as punch.

Wofford and I are going to do a joint book signing there soon (when he returns from his honeymoon, the old romantic), and I think I need to give him a bottle of the good stuff for putting in such a good word for me they by-passed the screening process altogether.

The day we took Irish back to the airport, TheHubs™ got a frantic phone call from Centre Stage, asking him to replace an actor in a fringe play opening in a week's time. They pretty much promised him the moon if he'd do it, so of course he said yes. It's a big part, where he plays a character and the character's own grandson. It touches on some very serious subjects, like peadophilia, and abandonment and alcoholism, so a chucklefest it ain't. I think that's the main reason he wants to do this mad thing - to show he's not just a comedic actor, and that he can be relied upon to step up when the heat is on. I think he'll be great in it.

I've just submitted my [livejournal.com profile] hp_halloween gift, and I hope fervently I don't run into the same problems I had before regarding .txt file submissions. Fortunately, it's only 200 words long, so even if I do it will hopefully be a quick fix. The prompt was very challenging for me - that'll teach me to be more specific as to what I want to write about. But I think I did okay - [livejournal.com profile] stgulik liked it, and that's good enough for me big time.

Speaking of Jules, she has just finished the edit of Book 2 of HM, and as per usual she has totally blown me out of the water with her amazing suggestions. She gave me an alternate way to end the book (and a new beginning to Book 3) which absolutely had me cutting cartwheels. I won't get to start on it until next week, but I'm thrilled about it all. This lady's brain is pure cashmere.

I'm having scores of back problems lately. Too much strain on my upper shoulders. I have always carried a lot of tension in my shoulders, and I do even more now.

Right now, I have a lot of projects that are time-consuming and I'll finally get to work on them this week (podcasts, crafts, writing, etc), and if my back holds up, I'll hopefully be able to accomplish them all.

The state of the world troubles me, but what's new? We live in a very bad time right now. TheHubs™ and I are doing okay, and better than many, so there's that to be thankful for.

Hello right back atcha! Yes, I'm so excited, but that's tempered with my overall exhaustion. Just when I should be promoting the hell out of things, I'm too tired to get out of the house!

Congrats on the book! What great news, and that store looks wonderful. Tell Hubs I wish him the best; that's a challenging task, but he's so experienced I'm sure he's up to it.

I'm still madly working on my Halloween drabble; the prompt turned out to be harder than I expected (two attempts junked already). But I'm having a fine time with it. Love this fest.

I love it as well. I've already sent two revisions to the mods (they are the best), and I've sworn up and down that will be the last one (for this year, at least).

Hello! I've been lurking, too, and this week ive tried to get back on the LJ wagon. I'm very happy for you regarding the local book store. You are on your way. When the books are made into movies, please remember you sister. I would be a proud member of your Entourage on premier night.

Congratulations on the book! This is great news! And congrats to the Hubs as well, for getting that dramatic role. Break a leg, Trev!

Thank you, Mimi darling! It's always so great to see you here. His role is very challenging, and I can see the stress already rearing its head, but we'll get him through it.

Go you for the book selling!! And what an awesome place Joe's looks to be. I wish I could visit! How does one find your book there?

The state of the world troubles me -- I know. I can't help but wonder if that's at least part of the silence here: we all feel a bit discouraged :/
