Hey friends, please give a big, huge welcome to [livejournal.com profile] stgulik , a fantastic friend of mine and my beta extraordinaire. If I make sense at all in this world, it's because this beautiful lady is running behind, making sure my sentences are properly structured, my tenses are consistent and my characters aren't doing stupid stuff because I forgot to get them to put their clothes back on.

Please give her a warm hello - she is everything that is good and right in fanfiction.

Greetings

Following up my first LJ post with ... my first LJ comment! Thank you for the kind words, my dear. Creating an account was slightly less painful than I remember when I tried last time. I think things will go well.

There are so many great people here, and you can read some stunning short fiction you won't find anywhere else. Several good friends of mine, like justpinkpastel, sempraseverus and mimimanderly are here and they are wonderful to correspond with. And, of course, the amazing Droxy is here - she is a force of nature and one I am happy to call friend as well. Welcome aboard - this place has inspired me like mad!

There are several great communities I would suggest you join just for the great short fics - one_bad_man, grangersnape100, snape_detention, love_draughts, just to name a few. Love_draughts is one of the most comprehensive lists for SS/HG stuff out there - each week they give you a compilation of everything to do with that ship that's been posted for the week - they are awesome!

Howdy!

It's a really friendly bunch here; they even tolerate me, even tho I'm mostly anti-SS/HG ships! LOL

But hey, you don't diss us for our ship, so we appreciate that as well!

Well that's because I'm pretty tolerant. I'm not into SS/HP, SS/DM, SS/LM, SS/LL, and a good many other ships, either.

But my feeling is that whatever floats someone's boat is fine, doesn't effect me one way or another.

And I've actually read some SS/HG fics that were pretty good -- but they were all with much older Hermiones (not just out of school), Hermiones that had vastly matured from the character we see in the books.

THAT is my primary objection with the ship -- I really don't like the Hermione in the books, I don't believe she is really as intelligent as the hype, and I think Severus might tolerate her doing sous chef work as an apprentice/assistant, but I don't think she has the intellectual depth for him to ever consider having any sort of emotional and/or physical relationship with her.

(Ducks behind a cabinet in anticipation of things/curses being thrown my way) LOL

No need to duck on my flagship, babe. I think the lovely thing about fanfic is that it is a open world to us, and Severus is a character that can go anywhere.

I feel the same way about slash. I cannot see the character as homosexual, and I don't understand the whole concept of writing him as such. I simply cannot fathom the idea of writing a character that I feel an attraction for having sex with another man. And I get a lot of gimlet eyed looks over that comment, believe me!

To be absolutely frank, even tho I feel an attraction for the character of Snape, I really feel that he would have been sexually abstinant. I think his torch for Lily burned too fiercely for him to even consider looking at another woman (I agree with you on him being heterosexual), and that he'd believe that if he DID even think about another woman "in that way", that it would somehow be a betrayal of Lily.

Snape really seems rather monkish, and I think that post-Lily he'd consider any sort of emotional involvement, even with a pet, too "messy"...

;-)

The interesting thing about Snape fic to me is, I can imagine him enjoying sex of just about any variety. And those I didn't imagine. Teddyradiator did, LOL.

I think, with me, I can see this character moving in a myriad of directions. Yes, I can see the monastic Snape. I can see the sexgod!Snape, I can see the Dominant, the submissive, the cruel, the romantic, the sweet and the rabid!Snape. He is such an archetype that he can be molded into whichever shape you want him to go. That is the fun of writing him, and looking at Sempra's drawings - you can take him anywhere, and he seems to be at home. The character's personality transcends canon, to me.

I just can't see him humping another guy.

I am on my way over to say hello right now!

You guys made me feel so welcome when I joined and I know she will, too.

Oh, yes, please do! She's just super. I can't find my fictional socks without her.

If that's the case, where would I be without her? Because, as you know, I basically live for your stories!

Believe me, kiddo, those are words I really need to hear today.

Thanks for being there for me. I don't know what I'd do without you, either.

I will give you all the encouragement that you need.

Your work has inspired me to do something that I never even thought I would ever attempt, write my own fic. And you have given me so much praise for what I have, that I am continuing to write it. If it weren't for you and Mimi and Shell, I wouldn't have the confidence to put two words on the page.

And you are helping to guide me to become a better writer, letting me know that it is okay to be frustrated with my work, to take a break from it. Not only with our emails, but from the stories of yours that I read.

That's what we're here for, babe. To help each other. Yeah, contests are fun and they stretch you, but the main reason I write is for other's enjoyment and pleasure, and if I inspire someone to write something then I benefit as well, because I get to read it!

I sometimes get painfully frustrated with my writing; but that's okay. It never fails me; it just might not be there on that given day. But it is there, and waits until you are ready to harvest it.

All of you have made me a better writer; that's all I need to feel like a success.

I am a cosplayer/fan artist/moderator of GS100.

I dont write like I used to. I'd rather manip them having sex and then torture myself writing about them.

Right now work is kicking my ass, so my posts get minimal and very direct. LOL

Love the icon!

GS100 is a community. It means GrangerSnape100 - each week, we are given a different challenge to write about - in 100 word (drabble) increments. You will find some super short fics here. I strongly recommend joining the community. It's been very helpful for me, and I've read some simply stunning short fics here.

Puts up modly icon.

http://grangersnape100.livejournal.com/

GS100 is arcomym for grangersnape100 drabble community. It was started before I got on Lj and the first mod gave it to me to run.

I like drabbles because they are very fast reads.

SQUEEEEE!!! I'm glad - Gooly is my beta goddess... She makes me sound good. Without her, I'm a mass of dangling participles, misplaced modifiers and all sorts of grammatical errors I'm too thick to know I'm even committing!
