Happy Monday!

I was rather shocked at how long it's been since I posted here (or anywhere, for that matter), and I can only say that in my defense it's been a very crazy April and I'm just getting over it 8 days into May.
Work has been stupidly busy, with us working 10 hours days. This job is awesome, but it's feast or famine. Two weeks ago we were working 10 hours a day, five days a week. This week I have a grand total of 4 hours' work. TheHubs™ has around 12.
Catherine's two weeks with us have come and gone. She was celebrating her 25th birthday with us, and we scheduled a big party, like Jamesmas last September for her brother James' birthday. As it was her 25th, we dubbed it Queen Catherine's Silver Jubilee and the food was traditional UK party snacks. I even made homemade sausage rolls, which were a lot easier than I anticipated and were fought over. I totally fucked up my Victoria Sponge (well, in all honesty, TheHubs™ opened the oven too early and they fell flat as pancakes). The second attempt survived, but was too dry for my taste. He also opened the fridge and a homemade banoffee pie fell out and landed upside down on the floor, but hey, we still had enough food to feed an army. Unfortunately, a large percentage of the invitees cried off, so it was a rather poorly attended affair, which was a bit disappointing, especially for Catherine. Tons of people had come to Jamesmas, and she had been the Belle of the Party that night. But those who did come came early and stayed late, and we had a lot of fun. Ah, well, we ate leftovers for days.
We went to a stupid amount of silly preparation for this party. Keeping with the royal theme, I created a scepter and orb from junk and rhinestones, and we found an old beat-up chair and converted it into a throne (we're actually considering redoing it properly. It's a lovely little chair):

We bought a cheap red velvet cloak off ebay, and I trimmed it with white fur with black 'tails' to imitate ermine. It wasn't too difficult, but cutting the fur was awful - it went everywhere! We were choking on it. Finally, we just got out the vacuum and started sucking all the flying fur out of the air. Catherine's seen here with our good friend Feather, who's a real card. The photos from the party are hilarious, because everyone wanted to wear the crown and hold the scepter and orb. If you don't look too closely, the ermine effect turned out great, and she wore that cloak most of the night:

While she was here, she and TheHubs™ got tattoos. Hers is in the shape of South Carolina, black, with the palm tree and crescent moon in relief.

TheHubs™' really is one of my favourite tats ever, and suits him to a tee.

I was dying to get one, and while they were getting inked, I found a framed series of 'Sailor Jerry' tattoo styles that completely inspired me. I love old school tats, and this is one of the most traditional styles. So, the Saturday after Catherine returned to the UK, I went and got this:

The tattooist was a bit heavy-handed, and with it being the inner forearm, by the time she had finished I was taking deep breaths and cursing myself for being a wimp. She was, however, very complimentary and said I did very well. So well, in fact, that I'm going back Friday for one more - but it's a secret. I will say this:
snapebraille4tu, you are gonna love it! This one, however, will need a few touch-ups, and I don't know if I can do it Friday. As I say, she was rather heavy handed, and I have several deep scabs in some of the edges (the top left leaf, the G in Gypsy, the left edge of the heart just under the S in soul), so I think I'll have to return at a later date to do any touch ups. It's still tender, over a week later. I spoke to a good friend of mine whose husband is a very well-known tattooist in London, and she has extensive tattoos all over, and she assured me that this wasn't anything out of the ordinary and nothing to worry about, so I'm good.
And if that wasn't cool enough,
mywitch is designing my next tattoo! It's all good, believe me.
We had to take our 18-year-old cat Mouse to the vet today. He's had a sebaceous cyst for awhile, and we thought it was getting a bit infected. His eyes were a bit goopy and dirty as well. The vet was great - she gave him an antibiotic and drained the cyst. She even showed us how to do it if it fills back up. She said if he was a younger cat they would remove it, but it wasn't really worth the trauma of trying to put him under. She didn't think it was anything more than just a harmless cyst. She said she also detected a slight heart murmur, which could either be nothing or very serious, but then said that at his age, he was probably okay living with it.
We have to give him eye drops twice a day, which will NOT be fun, and right now he can't look at us without steam coming out of his ears, but all in all, for his age he's in good shape. A little slow and a little creaky in the joints, but still enjoys his food and interaction with us (when he stops pouting), so we just take every day as a gift. He's still full of life, not like our poor Bosco, and as long as he's moving about and staying interested and eating and pooping well, I'm just going to let him eat anything he wants and stroke his boney old head and enjoy his company. We've had him longer than we've been married, and although he's a rather dopey old thing, he is tough and somehow loveable.
Oh, and shameless plug before I go: Episode 27 of Teddy & The Bassman is up. Catherine joined us and we had a great time talking about all sorts. I'd love it if you'd give it a listen. Just click on the pic:

Oh that looks like grand fun! And mmm the food.
I need to see if I'm too wimpy or not for a tattoo. I worry. But I really want one, but I have a couple ideas and want them to be special and unique. Soooo... hasn't happened yet.

Date: 2017-05-09 01:32 am (UTC)I've always wanted one. I need a horse tattoo. And I need a Harry Potter tattoo. I was thinking the outline of Hogwarts with a watercolor sky behind if, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home. But I'm not sure.
