May. 20th, 2011 06:27 pmI love this idea, and I'm soooo grateful for the change to expand. When I wrote my prompts, I had to shave off almost 3000 words from my prompt to fit it in.
First and foremost, I do truly believe that canon!Snape was a complex, intricate character, with keen intelligence, a great capacity to love, and amazingly arrested development. I can even believe he was a bit of a shaghound after Lily ditched him, but I can also believe he almost lived like a monk since then. Guilt and remorse are not great lubricants for the libido.
I truly believe that, had Severus lived, he would have grown, and eventually found his feet. He may have had to learn to do it elsewhere, but I cannot see him living out the wizard's long lifespan without growing up and moving on. I believe he would find his humour, his pace and eventually love. Of course, he would still have his moments, but don't we all? I just don't see 100-year-old Severus as big a bastard as he was at 35. Someone that intelligent would have put two and two together, learned to forgive himself and tried to be the person Lily would have loved.
My likes: I LOVE Dominant!Snape/submissive!Hermione, but I also like Dominant!Hermione/submissive!Snape if it's done intelligently. That is often more difficult to produce of the two dynamics, but can sometimes be greater in reward. I love well-done smut, humour if it's clever and sexy, and witty dialogue. I like Severus to be sexy, but not a sexgod!Snape, because I like the idea of both of them still able to teach the other a thing or two. I am a huge fan of Dom/sub smut and really hope I get some, but I am a massive voice slut and have been known to stop reading when he stops talking. I do love sex talk, if it's done well, and in MY world, Severus talks a good talk during sex.
I love a good romance, and I do enjoy reading about Severus interacting with his children. I would like to think he'd make a good dad, and I like seeing him with his children.
I adore BDSM as long as it is done with control, not evil or squicky (In other words, I don't like humiliation) and never as torture. I can live with a little noncon or dubcon, if reasons why it is accepted by the noncon party is explained. I love a well-done detention fantasy (though many feel it's been done to death, I've only recently read one that melted my butter quite nicely). I like the idea of Snape with a healthy, sexy imagination, and Hermione as someone who could release her inhibitions and enjoy herself with Severus. And for goodness sake, use his assets: his voice, his hands, his hair, his body. Hell, even his long thin feet sort of do it for me. And his dress sense. Give me a Snape in a velvet formal dress robe or in his shirtsleeves and I'm anybody's.
I am not adverse to a 3-way if (and this is a big if) it's strictly hetero. Slash will earn you an Avada. I mean I do realise this is just fanfic and not a cure for cancer, and I'm not going to get too precious about too much, as I love gifts, but hey, since I have the chance to reveal my prefs, I'm going to give you a mouthful.
I appreciate canon compliant, but I understand if a word is misspelled, or a comma is in the wrong place. I'm not anal about it. If you're not sure, I'd advise checking the Lexicon. That has saved my bacon a few times.
I love a happy, happy ending. I love being made to laugh, cry, and fret over what's to come, but I don't want to fall blindly in love with a pairing and see them fall apart at the end or one of them die. That will put me in a funk for days.
I love second teired characters with depth and plot movement. I don't mind a little voyuerism, and I love descriptive sex if it's well done. Many writers here just blow me away with how well they write erotica, so I'm not too worried about that.
Things I don't love: Absolute irredeemable bastard!Snape. Self-absorbed, absent-minded Hermione. Infidelity. Don't have them cheating on one another. It makes me crazy. Plots that confuse me or explanations that are cleverly cryptic. I'm still muddling over some that I read months ago, because I can't get my head around what actually happened. A Severus/Hermione so out of character that I don't recognise something about them. I realise that all SS/HG writing is OOC by its very nature, but a tap dancing Snape up with which I will not put. I don't like parody. It cheapens the characters. Give them humour, by all means, but within their own personalities. And please don't kill them off and reunite them in the afterlife. I really want them to get jiggy with it right here on earth. I hate slash with a passion.
I don't like abusive!Snape or wimpy!Hermione. They are such strong characters that even in their softer moments, there is an intensity about them. I think, in the grand scheme of things, that's why we're still writing them as a ship.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know, but those of you who know me probably know that.

Date: 2011-05-20 11:50 pm (UTC)I can actually tolerate some slash, but I just (make that) can't see Snape and Lucius in a homoerotic situation with anyone. One would be too busy critiquing, and the other would be too busy making sure his old fella was bigger.

Date: 2011-05-21 11:22 am (UTC)I stick to what I observe in real life. Young straight guys tend to go through a phase of more physical bromance where they test each other by mucking about physically, masking it under humour and joking about, but it rarely, rarely turns into anything which would involve real sexual contact. And then as they get older it fizzles out. That's my objection to slash generally. It is just not believable in reality. Straight men do not suddenly have sex with their best mates. Yeah, we could write them as being gay, but they're not. Snape's story hinges on the fact that he was in love with a girl. Lucius finds some redemption at the end because of his love for his wife and family. And I don't see them as being bi, basically.
The only pairing I can tolerate with a bit of slash is SB/RL - I can see those two being bi, definitely. But not Snape and Lucius.
I'll write threesomes for them with Hermione (oh yes) but they never even touch each other if they can help it.
