After the arduous work we did in the hall yesterday, TheHubs™ and I decided to have a fun day. We haven't really done that in awhile, so it was quite fun. We did a tiny bit of thifting, but it was too hot to really get into it much (no thrift stores around here have A/C), so we decided to cut our losses. We went out to lunch, then stopped by the local cinema to watch the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie in 3-D. We both enjoyed it very much; it was full of action and I purely enjoyed it for the entertainment value. It also made me smile to be introduced to Vision and the Scarlett Witch, whose romance entranced me way back in 1973 when I was eleven and read Marvel comics all the time. These are excerpts from my two favourite Marvel comics, numbers 113 and 114 respectively.

I love the bright, lurid colours of 1973 comic art, don't you? Other than that, TheHubs™ bought a new watch, and I got some hair colour to touch up my roots. We had kulfi for a nighttime snack, and I'm shocked at just how late it is. Good night everyone.

Your thrift stores don't have air conditioning???!! They do realize that they are in the humid south, don't they? Gosh, it's hard to find any place in Wilmington that isn't practically refrigerated after the first fairly mild day. It's ridiculous, because I dress for the heat and humidity outside, but then I have to bring along a jacket or a sweater to put on inside. Kind of defeats the purpose of having nice sundresses or tank tops, y'know?

I know! Goodwill and Salvation Army are okay, but the best thrift stores are these old buildings full of junk - and they have these big turbine machines that just blow the hot air around.

What is it about that era that just has that certain look. Reminds me of some of the artist stylings of the 1950's and 60's pinball machines. If you ever get out to the San Francisco Bay Area, look me up, but be sure to swing by the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda where you can play a lot of those pinball machines from the 1950's up through today: http://pacificpinball.org

I LOVE things like that. Up until about twelve years ago, The Myrtle Beach Pavilion had a huge arcade section full of older pinball machines and really neat old arcade items. They tore it down, but I think all the machines must have either gone into the skip or into the hands of private owners. It would have been nice to have something like that down at MB. It is a greedy, sprawling place that doesn't respect its own history, I'm afraid.

Those machines would have been easily snapped up by collectors, both public and private. Sorry to hear that they decided to gentrify it in such a burn and raze fashion.

Jack Kirby's artwork is so amazing! I'm glad you liked Age of Ultron and that you had a great "fun day."
