Crikey, they REALLY needed to put this earlier in the meme, say around seven, or nine, or eighty-three.
1. Skate. Any kind of skating - roller, roller blade, inline, ice. I am clumsy in the ways that all big dopey things are; I twist my ankles, I trip over my own feet, I over-balance, I fall over for no other reason than my love/hate relationship with gravity. To a person with my monumentally inept physicality, skating is the ultimate, the pinnacle, the peak. It is moving gracefully, it is soaring, it is being one with nature's most beautiful creatures. This time around, I decided to be the klutz. I think in another life I must have been very graceful and delicate, like a ballerina, so I chose to be an absolute ditz in this one to help me to understand humility. I get it already.
2. Play stringed instruments well. At the risk of sounding immodest, I'm a good singer. When I practice, I can be a pretty good keyboardist. But guitars, violins, etc have continued to elude me. Beyond the four basic chords that one could teach a monkey to play, I just can't get my brain to work on that level. The piano is a family instrument; many of my aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc could play it reasonably well, and so can I. But we are not string players. I obviously was placed in the wrong family for guitar genes. TheHubs™ is a bassist and a damn good one, and while he doesn't play the guitar in any real capacity, he understands it enough to be able to play. I listen to Ricky Skaggs or Dan Taminsky and just rail at my other dumb decision, which was to not be born into a string instrument family this time round. Apparently I was really in to teaching myself humility.
I must have been one smug, entitled, talented douche the last time around.

Date: 2015-02-11 05:02 pm (UTC)My daughter managed to twist her ankle at a roller skating birthday party on the way from putting the skates on to the rink. LOL So yeah, I understand that one as well.

Date: 2015-02-12 03:02 am (UTC)I always wanted to know how to ice skate. But my ankles are just too weak; I could never stand up. I did do a lot of roller skating at one time, though (not in-line).

And the song that you see on the sidebar:

It's a bit loud, but it's a good representative of my voice.

Date: 2015-02-12 03:59 am (UTC)It's funny you should say this, because I circle around this idea frequently: Now I am X, therefore in my previous life I must have been Y. I'm a big believer in reincarnation (nature recycles everything else, why not souls/beings/lives?) so it amuses me to deduce things about my past or future from my present.
That aside, I spent a LOT of time at roller skating rinks when I was in middle school and I know just what you mean about the love/hate relationship with gravity. Have you tried skiing? It's a lot like skating but easier since you have the giant boots to support your ankles :)
