In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something fun you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it.This is something I've requested for a long time, and since I have permission via Snowflake to create a challenge, I'll do it here in a more formal manner.
I would like to see more SSHG creatives participate in
grangersnape100, which is my OTP's weekly drabble-writing challenge community. For the longest time I was afraid to write drabbles - I am very verbose, and tend to put ALL the words into a story. My dear friend
mimimanderly, who was a master of drabbles, encouraged me to give it a go; so did
droxy and
irishredlass, the comm's mods. I finally gave it a go, and fell in love with the format. It is a wonderful way to flex writing and concept muscles; those 100 word bites are as far from intimidating as you can get, and not only is drabble writing a great exercise for becoming a more concise, fluid writer, but it helps keep the fandom alive. I truly believe using the weekly challenges as writing exercises has made me a better writer.
My OTP's creative membership has dwindled sharply in the last couple of years, and many of the authors and artists who participated in the
sshg_giftfest never participate in any other aspect of SSHG at any other time. Only a handful of us write for GS100 now, and yet people are always clamouring for more SSHG work. The lovely thing is that GS100 also accepts artwork for their challenges, and I have even participated in art/fic collaborations for GS100. It is a great place to meet up with other SSHG writers and artists.
So here's my challenge:I would challenge every SSHG author and artist to participate in at least four challenges this year for
grangersnape100. There are literally hundreds of challenges already on the books, and a new one is issued each Sunday.
And to my friends in other pairings and fandoms, I challenge you to participate in one GS100 challenge this year. Not only will you get a chance to try something new in a very safe and supportive environment, but you will bring something fresh and new to our OTP with your unique perspective.
Thank you to all the people who read my entries for this challenge, and for the Snowflake mods who put it together. This was a most enjoyable 15 days of challenges.

Date: 2015-01-15 11:43 pm (UTC)What an excellent challenge. The velvet Steampunk Librarian gauntlet is thrown! I for one will take it up and promise write more for GS100 this year. And if there's a master list of prompts 'round the place, it will really help feed the muse.

Date: 2015-01-16 02:45 am (UTC)Oh, you'll need to join on InsaneJournal, though since the LJ one is pretty dead as far as I can tell.
Edit: Okay, so I just joined GrangerSnape. Do I have to pick a team or can I just post?

Date: 2015-01-16 03:13 am (UTC)But other than that, just have fun with it! Points are awarded if both Severus and Hermione are mentioned in the drabble, and a drabble series can be as long as you want, as long as it's divided into 100-word increments.
Thank you for stepping up, sweetie! I can't wait to read your drabbles.
I'll head over to IJ, and join there right now! ♥

Date: 2015-01-16 03:15 am (UTC)BTW, I started my SS/SB + Hermione fic today. I think it may be a little more involved than I planned, but we shall see! ;)

Date: 2015-01-16 09:26 pm (UTC)I do think doing drabbles is such a great exercise in writing: trying to find just the right words to express what you want, while keeping it to the word limit, and still making sense. Your challenge has prompted me to go back to GS100 and read through my drabbles, which I am sad to say have been few and far between in recent years, and I found that I really do love a lot of the snippets I wrote for the comm.
Therefore, dear Teddy, I accept your challenge, and look forward to drabbling more in coming year. :)
