Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Whew! Barely made it under the wire.

Day 14

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

Whoa, this is so hard. Do you have any idea how many good fanworks there are out there???

Since I've spoken about so many amazing writers during the Snowflake Challenge, I think I'll use today to mention Artists. The Artists give such an important dimension to fandom - writing is lovely, and the imagination is a brilliant masterwork, but an artist brings our imaginings to visual life. If I were an artist, I'd draw all day long. But I also understand that like authors, artists are influenced by their Muses, and can also be at their mercy as well.

My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] toblass has been drawing fanart for the past three years, and every piece she draws is exponentially more lush than the last. She draws with such love of detail. The majority of her works can found on [livejournal.com profile] toblass' deviantArt page and HERE on AO3.

[livejournal.com profile] deslea is so multi-talented. A fantastic digital artist, an incredible writer, and a lovely person generous with her support and her work. She writes and draws for multiple pairings and fandoms, and I love the fact that she can write these gorgeous lush stories and illustrate them herself - how cool is that?? You can find her work HERE on dA and HERE on AO3

One of the amazing things about fandom art is its ability to teach you to love a pairing, and no one illustrates this for me more than [livejournal.com profile] akatnamedeaster. Kat is a spell-binding artist, who loves her OTP with so much love and passion. Her anatomy, her expressive quality, and her wonderful ability to use any kind of medium make her one of the most entertaining artists to view. I fell in love with her OTP solely because her love and her amazing talent breathed a life into them that drew me in, and filled my heart with love for them. You can find her work HERE on LJ and HERE on AO3.

When I first got into SSHG as a pairing, I was a babe in the woods and didn't know what to ask for or where to look. [livejournal.com profile] lemonade8 posted two SSHG pieces to the [livejournal.com profile] ftpma_dishing comm, and that was the first SSHG art I ever saw in my life. I was enthralled. Since then, not only have I had the chance to tell this brilliant, warm, wickedly funny lady how important her art was to my involvement in the fandom, but I have had the chance to collaborate with her as well. She has done renders based on my stories, and to a person who saw their first SSHG art based on their first SSHG story, that is a SERIOUS head buzz. Her Severus/Hermione renders are simply magical, but she has many strings to her bow, and her fantasy characters are equally beautiful. You can see her work HERE on LJ and HERE on deviantArt.

And I will end this with a very special artist to me. I stand by the statement I made a couple of days ago - fandom thrives when it is a community, and never is that more prevalent than a Con. Two years ago at MISTI-Con, I got to not only meet one of my heroes, but I got to room with her and watch her work. [livejournal.com profile] droxy is a different kind of artist - in that she becomes the art. Droxy is a fantastic cosplayer, who transforms into Headmaster Snape, Ollivander, Nearly Headless Nick, Argus Filch, Bellatrix Lestrange, Augusta Longbottom, Petunia Dursley, just to name a few. She is also an accomplished seamstress and all around wonderful good egg. I first saw Droxy cosplaying Leather jacketed, chain-smoking Seven Preposterous Things Snape on a Youtube video, and my thighs nearly went up in flames.

Since then, I've had the lucky privilege to become her friend, and because of her, I am here on LJ and writing fanfiction. At MISTI-Con, I got to watch her transform from curvy blue-eyed, button-nosed Droxy to tall, broadchested, black-eyed, hook nosed Headmaster Snape, and it is an incredible process to behold. Droxy has also created great art with photography and digital manipulation, with herself as the models (sometimes in several different poses within the art. Droxy is a great fandom symbol, and at Con, she's a real celebrity. Plus she made a few visual fantasies come true. Because of her, I got to dance with Headmaster Snape, frolic with Nearly Headless Nick, and search for Mrs. Norris with Argus Filch. You can see her work HERE on dA and HERE on LJ. Gosh, I love this lady.

Thank you so much Teddy, I'm so glad you gave my work a shot and introduced yourself. If it weren't for that, we never would have met. :)
