I'm pretty pleased with myself so far - it's day 10 and I've only missed one day - I just didn't have the heart to subject you all to sending me love memes - I've done that to fuel my insecurities too many times in the past and I wasn't going to trouble you with it again.

Day 10
Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you.
I hate to sound cagey, but I have done the second suggestion (new pairing) for
severus_fest, so I will post the link when the reveals are up.
I know it sounds astounding to some, but I've never read Snarry. In yesterday's challenge, when I mentioned how protective I am of my OTP,
alisanne remarked she felt the same about hers. Now I know she is as committed to Snarry as I am to SSHG, so I read her fic A Supernatural Interest. It was a lovely short story, and I enjoyed it very much. Aside from being well written with balance and humour, it showed such love and affection for Severus and Harry as a couple, and I respect that so very much.
I try very hard not to get militant about my OTP, and I do try to be open-minded about others. Some pairings appeal to me and some don't, and that's okay too. I used to be extremely close-minded about other pairings I didn't like, but hey, my opinion isn't worth diddly. Love what you love and write it with all the passion your pen can muster, and make those characters sing their love to the rooftops.
It's always lovely to read someone who is as passionately in love with their pairing as I am with mine. Thank you
alisanne, for making my first Snarry a treat.

Date: 2015-01-10 08:54 pm (UTC)I consider Snarry far and away the pairing of my heart, my OTP to end all OTPs, the ship that got me into fandom and that most inspires me to write. But the true locus of my fascination lies with Snape, which eventually persuaded me to try other pairings. I now have a whole host of favorites, often because a writer or artist seduced me into loving what they love. And as a natural progression of my nine years in HP, I've also acquired a fondness for non-Snape characters and romances. (Thank you, hp_beholder and hoggywartyxmas.)
And yet, none of this variety and exploration has dimmed my first love in the slightest. I still primarily consider myself a Snape/Harry shipper, and I re-read cherished older fics with the same thrill I originally felt and still seek out new authors and stories to feed my Snarry hunger. (And still work on my WiPs, but the less said about that, the better.) Like you, I can get a bit militant, but usually only if someone calls my ship disgusting or insults me for my preferences. Mostly I just bask in the pleasure I get from being part of the Snarry community.
So I think it's possible to revel in the great merry-go-round of HP pairings and yet remain true to that one ship, the one that brings out all our passion and loyalty.
