Well, Thank Goodness for Big Favours

I am now typing my post on a shiny new laptop, thanks to a lady who came in yesterday and bought a bunch of stop stuff - we weren't expecting that, and it enabled me to buy a halfway decent replacement for my poor, milk-logged HP.

I am hoping that the hd can be retrieved, otherwise chapter 20 of Lay Me Low will have to be restarted from scratch. And I was working on a tasty little smut fic that, sadly, will be lost as well. Aside from that, most stuff was on another hd and now on Dropbox, which madeleone turned me onto. I am also fortunate that "I Want That One" is here; I would have lost it as well.

All in all, I am thankful, and I appreciate all your words of encouragement, commiseration, and recipe suggestions for my poor laptop/milk/rice combo. mimimanderly said it sounded like the ultimate in fusion cooking. I do have the best friends in the world here.

Wooot! Hurray for new laptops! Glad you found dropbox, and thanks for using the link I posted, I got some extra storage when you signed up. As I said I think it was Aurrette who point me in that direction. And I do of course back up to an external HD and a USB as well (a bit paranoid I am). Hopefully you can save the things you don't have backed up off the dead laptop. And don't give up on it yet. My IT future S-I-L said it might take several days to absorb the moisture. (although I know someone else here said that milk is bad!) :)

Milk is bad, compared to spilling plain water or black tea... ;-)

It'll definitely take several days to completely dry out, with or without the aid of rice...never knew anyone to use rice in such a situation, but I'd worry that the rice grains would end up "glued" to the innards when the milk dries.

I'd still bring the old computer in to be cleaned, it doesn't cost all that much, you'll probably be able to get your old data, and you'd then have a second working computer that you could save to use as a backup.

I'm really tickled about it. It's an Acer, which was on special online, but when I went to pick it up, it was actually $30 cheaper! So it turned out to be a really good deal. I'm still trying to get everything loaded onto it, but so far, so good!

LOL! When I first got kicked off deviantArt and Droxy pimped me here with all her friends, Mimi and I had been corresponding for a long time there already.
