SED - 26 October 2013
Oct. 26th, 2013 10:05 pmThank you to everyone who has been so supportive and caring through this 'thing' that is happening to me regarding religion. I'm not going to continue beating you over the head with it; it's Saturday and you deserve a night off from my bitching. But your comments and support are greatly appreciated, and treasured in my heart. I have taken your advice and wise counsel to heart, and I'm working through it with the help of my precious Muse, who has been hovering around like a worried mother hen.
It's been a really nice day, overall. TheHubs(r) and I, after deciding NOT to go to the Halloween costume party, decided to take a road trip to Landrum, SC, which is a pretty little town in what is called the Dark Corner.
According to the latest WIKI: "The Dark Corner of South Carolina has been shrouded in mystery for over 175 years. Loosely defined, it's the towns of Landrum, Gowensville and Glassy Mountain that make up the Dark Corner. The area was named not from its reputation for moonshining as most people believe, but because in 1832 it was the only area that voted against the nullification act which gave South Carolina the right to ignore federal mandates. A local politician said in one of his speeches that this was a dark corner where the light of Nullification could never shine. Thus the name the Dark Corner caught on."
Landrum is a pretty, quaint little town with a charming street full of antique and curio shops - many of which were just full of goodies we ooh-ed and ahh-ed over. In one, called Savvy Scavengers, we found some huge table legs - they were the perfect size and shape to be large candle holders. $3 each! I'm going to stain them and I think they'll look lovely bracing my fireplace.
We also went to a local 'pub' there, the Hare and Hounds. The food was delicious; the service was absolutely awful - the wait staff were indifferent, lazy, and were very unsubtle in hurrying customers out to make way for the next batch of customers. TheHubs(r), who never bothers about these things, actually wrote a sternly worded email to them - he was very insulted, apparently - he's just not one to complain usually.
We drove down Hwy 11, or the Cherokee Scenic Highway, which is a beautiful road that runs pretty much across the upstate of SC and into NC. It never seems to be busy, and the views of the mountains are just stunning; so peaceful and serene. It gave me a great measure of calm to ride along, contemplating life while it passed by my window. Lots of old buildings, abandoned barns and old stores; roadside produce stands and strange establishments that had no names over their doors to announce what they were called or what could be found within. We came back home and enjoyed a slice of key lime pie and a glass of muscato. It's been a lovely, relaxing night all round.
I'm not writing again per se, but I have gone back and tidied up the chapters I've already written. I think my promptfest fic is fun, but possibly a little disjointed. I hope it will make sense. I think I'll go and read awhile, and tomorrow I'll tidy up the house and try to get stuck into some new writing.
It occurs to me that this entire month I've been pretty much on transmit here. I think that is the danger of the SED thing - you just get your megaphone out every day and bellow. With only a few days left, I probably will continue to blast at you, but afterwards I will try to curb my ramblings down to a dull roar. I saw this several days ago, but it has only really hit me between the eyes today.

Date: 2013-10-27 03:09 am (UTC)Your trip sounds lovely.
Saw a movie you might like. It's called Beautiful Creatures and it has lots of HP overtones. It is based on a book, and it is set in S.C.
