Oct. 24th, 2013 10:51 pmWriting these last couple of days seems to be a no-go. I'm going through a bit of stuff with my Muse. We just aren't quite connecting these past couple of days. I know some of it is physical, and some of it is still me working through this denouncement of my faith stuff. I just can't seem to get motivated, and for the first time in a very long time, I feel a bit disconnected from him. That's not good for someone like me. It feel quite isolated, even though I'm not.
Happy things, though.
mimimanderly inspired me to create an adagio tea called 'Manderly Chai', which she was very happy with, and for that I'm very grateful.
Tomorrow is a short day - only two projects, then we go to find TheHubs(r) a costume for Saturday's party. He's avoiding the Mat Hatter outfit I made him last year, and it looks like he may either go for Police Constable (he has all the stuff from his former job, including the hat) or American Indian (I have an authentic war bonnet from my years in Oklahoma, though his costume itself would be a cheapy from the shop). He keeps wanting to do one of those full face masks, like Darth Vader or something equally naff, and I keep telling him that he will 1) be unable to socialise because people avoid fully masked people, 2) be terribly uncomfortable and hot, or 3) look a right tit when he gets tired of being avoided and sweating and takes it off and walks around for the rest of the evening in half a costume.
I'm going to recycle my Con outfit as just a steampunk thing, without the witch's hat (which really doesn't make much sense outside the MISTI environment). We also have to take a dessert, so I'm trying to figure that out as well. I hardly ever cook any more, and I'm afraid of making something dreadful.
I'm trying to get the hang of this 'extreme shopping' thing. It's very exhausting. There's a great online source called Southern shopper.com, and she has these great videos, but it is so much work, and most of it I'm just too dense to understand. I want to save money as much as the next person but jeez, you have to plan for it the same way as people have to work on getting pregnant - watching cycles, dropping everything for sudden openings and one-day promotions, checking with a schedule to see the best days to buy certain things. I was exhausted just watching the video. And I'm none the wiser.
Well, off to bed. I've given up writing tonight. I know this is a temporary thing; it's happened before, and I know everything will be okay. But it's so unfun while it's happening.

Date: 2013-10-25 04:44 am (UTC)You could always make Hagrid's rock cakes! They're supposed to be dreadful! :p Honestly, though, cookies, muffins, and brownies are easy and simple to dress up for Halloween with cute little accents or pumpkin frosting.
You must call me, young padawan! I am a money-saving Jedi and I have LOADS of tips for saving money on food. There's so much variety in people's diets and local shopping environments I can't offer universal advice, but we should chat. It doesn't have to be the rat-race the "extreme shopping" people describe. There is hope! <3

Is extreme shopping the same thing as extreme couponing? If it means that I would have to go shopping on a particular day at a particular store... well, that's too much like work. And I do enough of that at the place where they give ME money, not the other way around. I have a grocery list on the frige with a magnetic pencil. When I realize that I've "just opened, cooked, made a sandwich with" the last of whatever it was, I put a tick by that item and that's what I buy when I go to the market.
If I put a value on my time, and think about the gas and how long it takes to go to a lot of different stores, then I don't worry about "extreme shopping." My daughter did save a lot of money when the Brian was an infant by using coupons, but now she just buys groceries and such when she needs them and if she has a coupon, fine, she uses it.
The bottom line for me is that I'm so tired at the end of my workday that the thought of having to go shopping for anything is more than I can handle. Just call me lazy.
(((sending lots of hugs)))

Date: 2013-10-25 10:30 pm (UTC)We have this 'scratch and dent' store here in Pelzer which has rock-bottom prices on stuff. You have to check the expiration dates carefully, but you can get unbelievable bargains there. We tend to go and stock up like mad, and nosh off our findings for awhile.
