First of all, thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes. I have literally spent all day reading and enjoying them! Unbelievable. I tried to reply to each and every one, and if I missed yours, I cannot apologise enough. I have been overwhelmed at the outpouring of love and well wishes I have received today. Thank you, my dear, dear friends.

Best line came from [livejournal.com profile] kmhmd's husband who wrote, "Happy Birthday, you sexy bitch!" Well, at my age it's still nice to get called that on one's birthday.

The Hubs took me out to dinner at the local Irish Pub, where I had delicious Calabash shrimp, Beer Cheese Soup, and Hot Fudge cake. We went over to Michael's to pick up a few odds and ends, and while he was getting guitar strings, I popped over to the Dollar Tree and stocked up on a few $1 goodies, mainly for my hair. Not having a/c in the car means my hair spends most of its time scraped back into rubber bands and hair clips, and it's looking pretty shabby. I desperately need a haircut as well. But a few hot oil treatments wouldn't go amiss.

We came back and chilled for awhile, then naughty [livejournal.com profile] celestialbeing1 posted a FB pic about being at Dairy Queen, and it made me so covetous the Hubs and I jumped in the car at 9pm and drove ourselves over to DQ for a Blizzard. It was lovely, and the night drive reminded us of our first years together when we had so little money we would just get in the car at night and drive aimlessly around, listening to music and talking about stuff.

I realise we drive 70% of our work day, but that's during the sweltering day and we're too hot and bothered to talk much about anything other than work. This leisure driving was nice and mellow, and we returned feeling that way.

Tomorrow is lunch with Mom, and an afternoon phone call with [livejournal.com profile] jenidralph, and some hopefully good hours of writing. I got none done today, but I don't feel too bad about it; I was having too much fun answering all your Happy Birthday posts! ;)

Awwww yaaaaay!! It sounds like you had a lovely lovely birthday.

You have no idea how tickled I am that I had something to do with you and hubby going to get DQ at 9pm. Honestly, that is the sort of thing J and I do, haha! Not to mention the taking a drive, jut to get out. That's actually how we got DQ in the first place; I just needed to get out the house.

Oh, btw, I make my own hair oil blend...it's got all of the thick, conditioning oils that are good for your hair. You could use that as a treatment before shampooing, let me know if you'd like me to mail you some. It's scented with black amber and vanilla.

Now, my divalicious Teddy...go get that happy ending for your happy birthday ;)

Babe, I'd love to try you hair conditioner! My poor hair is almost not on speaking terms with me anymore.

Yes, we used to take night drives all the time. It was good to do it again.

Sounds like a wonderful day. Back when we were young and poor, one of our main forms of entertainment was going for a 'cruise'. Just jumping in the car and going for a drive, exploring places we'd never been before and some that we had. It's still fun to do. :)

Sounds like you had a lovely day! I wish for all your days to be like that.

Paul and I used to drive around late at night with a six-pack of beer back when we were just starting out. (It gives you an idea of how long ago it was -- when drinking/driving laws were practically non-existent.) We used to actively try to get lost, but we never could. Apparently we both have an impeccable sense of direction.

I have found that the best conditioning treatment is coconut oil from the grocery store's organic section. I apply it fairly liberally to just the ends of my hair about a half hour before I shampoo. Then I shampoo and condition as usual. I do this each time, and when I skip a time, I notice a difference. I've read that the molecules in coconut oil are small enough to penetrate the hair shaft rather than just lie on top, and also it is what is called a "dry oil", which means that the excess washes out without leaving a greasy residue. Some of the more effective conditioners contain it, but I figured why not just put on the active ingredient and skip all the scents, dyes, and preservatives?
