Pre-Con Jitters and Last Minute Stuff

Okay, irishredlass is no doubt on her way to Casa del Droxy by now, and knowing that means the week before Con is finally upon us, I've got to get good and busy today. I honestly don't have another day between now and the day I flight out - I'm working Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in preparation for all those glorious days having fun.

I have to thank the Hubs, who honestly acts like he's as excited for me as I am. Of course, when I asked him what he would be doing with himself while I was gone, he replied airily, "Well, aside from being up to my knees in hookers and gin, I'll probably take the rubbish to the dump." Yessir, that's my boy.

He also told me that he was going to look for a full time job, because he wanted me to be able to stay at home and write full time. He doesn't like the way work has been eating away my writing drive lately anymore than I do. I think that makes him about the best guy there is.

We are looking at a reduced workload when I return from Con anyway, so I am determined to get back on track. I've been told in a very nice way in a recent review that my most recent fanfic hasn't exactly been impressing my readers. Ouch.

So, today's list of things to do:

Colour hair
Finish Con talk
Polish up Powerpoint presentation
Finish packing
Tidy up kitchen (hahaha, I know, but at least there's a possibility of it happening)
Make meatloaf (the Hubs' favourite)
Paint toenails ( I really do have to plan these things)
Compile all chargers, cables and gadgets

As to the kitchen - don't worry, you're not alone there! I'm lucky if my kitchen stays neat five minutes after I do the whole thing - two teenaged boys that are CONSTANTLY eating and have the domestic blindness common to all teens and many men... 'nuff said, methinks.

When I told my better half I was happy I had all the cleaning done, so everything would be neat when I returned home to rest, he said, "I'm going to trash the place." ;-)

I can't wait to see you as well. I'm so very excited, especially as my precious Muse gave me some new insights on my talk, and I think I'm really going to enjoy presenting it. That was the one thing I was still a little nervous over, but he's put my mind at ease on that one.

Sounds like my Hubs and your better half ought to get together and keep one another out of mischief ;)

Hubby said something similar to me but it was more "up to my ears in my little ponies and littlest pet shop while you're off picking up guys." The new bathing suit he bought me is not helping. He says I shouldn't be allowed out in public in it.

I feel you on time though. I have today and Tuesday. Though I will only be functionally another 2 hours or so before sleep becomes a must. So today is for haircut and color. Later after the family is tucked in bed, I will venture out to Walmart to pick up some things. I would much rather avoid it, but it will be the only thing open when I get up.

Packing for Con sounds very absorbing. Everybody I've read who is going seems hard at work doing just that. Nellie Bly could not get buy with just a small grip for traveling 'round the world in this day and age. The laptop and the phone and all the cords alone would take up that much room!

Believe me, I'm using the 'calculator and slide rule' concept to packing. I think I'm probably just going to purchase an extra bag when I get there to bring back my loot. I have no room for it otherwise! ;)

I talked to Irish for a good while this morning while she was on the way to Casa del Droxy. I think she still had about two hours of the drive ahead of her. It's gonna be a gloriously fantabulous time for y'all.

LOL, does your husband know my brother? On a summer family vacation he asked to take my 17 year old son parasailing and I said 'sure'. He wouldn't tell Patrick where he was taking him, he would only say "Hookers and blow" when asked what they were doing.

I'm excited for you in all these preparations, babe! I wish I could be there, but it just couldn't happen. Be sure to observe EVERYTHING and expect to be debriefed (that always sounds like more fun than it actually IS) when you get back!

Just be sure to tidy up while you're here. And throw out the gin bottles. He's a pretty good guy most of the time, but he will leave his liquor everywhere ;)

I just had a long 'talk' with DMuse while in the car, and I suddenly feel really excited about my talk. I was looking forward to it, but now I'm feeling eager to do it and it feels like he's giving me all these things to say (and yes, I did follow your advice, because you always give such good advice!). I promise to fill you in when I return. I hope to take some photos, but most of the time I like to live in the moment when I'm in a situation like that, and stopping to take pics gets in the way of that sometimes. Nevertheless, I want to have some photographic evidence of the fun time had by all.

Thank you so much - I'm thrilled to pieces to be going, and the preparation has been half the excitement. I am a terrible photographer with a decent camera, so I may get others to take photos for me - everything I do is one big blur. I honestly don't know how I can take such awful photographs.
