I started my new job yesterday - yay! It was not nearly as traumatic as I was afeared. Actually, it suits me to the ground: part time, flexible hours, on my own. The boss is a nice guy who's been with the company for 20 years, is very laid back and down to earth - cares about the company but isn't a See You Next Tuesday about it. The toughest part will be disciplining myself to log all my time preparing for work at home. They are very generous about paying you for it and the paper you use and the time travelled, and I have never had to keep up with that stuff before.
Stepson is coming to visit a week from Saturday, so no hanging around typing in my nightshirt for awhile. Although he hasn't said it, The Hubs has really backed off job hunting until James has been and gone. I don't blame him, really. He doesn't get to see his kids but once in a blue moon. Plus our windfall from Angel Gary means that we aren't going to suffer while James is here either.
Oh dear. The Hubs just came stumbling in to tell me I'd forgotten to turn off the alarm. NOT amused to be woken at 7:30 for no good reason - especially with a bijou hangover from a trip to a local restaurant to see our friend Chris Branch last night. I was on the coke and water, being designated driver. Oops. I think I'll let him sleep awhile...
I signed up for Exchange Bingo. I'm so excited about the Exchange it's indecent, but the idea of all my favourite writers with new fics simply pouring out of my laptop for the next two weeks is enough to make anyone's mouth water. Still no word from Pottermort (to quote
sempraseverus), but Chapter 24 of Lay Me Low is finished and ready for
stgulik's magic touch. After the trauma in the last chapter, this one is almost mellow.
03 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favourite characters to write?
Star Trek: Chakotay and B’Elanna Torres, Highlander: I loved writing Methos – very Snapish in character (jaded, sarky, sexy and brooding), and of course, in Harry Potter: Severus Snape and Hermione Granger. I also, for some reason, like to write Poppy Pomfrey. I’ve liked that character since PoA. I forgot to mention I also write Fresme fanfic (with apologies to
howlingmojo), and love getting inside the head of Frollo, who is really Severus in about thirty years or so.
Well, now that I'm awake, I think I'll just get ready and go on to work. Sooner begun, the sooner done. Wow. I've never gotten to say that before. I like it!

On deviantArt. I have just seen the most offensive case of abusive, threatening and bullying behaviour directed toward one of my dear friends,
sempraseverus. I know that dA is one of the most hypocritcal, screwed-up sites on the internet, but it honestly frightened me today. These two people were literally circling her like a shark, calling her names, threatening to get her banned, openly plotting against her on one of her own comment threads...I tell you, it was like something you'd see in a flim. Completely disturbing.
I asked to be re-instated on dA just to be able to comment to my friends how much I love their art and to just try to encourage them as much as they encourage me, but this literally made my blood run cold. There are some seriously nasty pieces of work out there, and I find it disturbing that they are so gleeful about how they bully and taunt someone. I'm glad I no longer have anything posted there, and I won't post there again.
My artistic friends, be so careful. There are too many people out there who, rather than try to build you up and encourage and inspire, live to tear you down and hurl abuse, and that's what this person was doing - hurling abuse at Sempra, for no other reason, it seemed, than just because she could.
