I felt the earth move, and not in a good, sexy, Severus-wearing-leather kind of way. We had a small earthquake about 30 minutes ago, and I can put my hand to my heart and say that it unnerved the living crap out of me. It was a small one, so my friends with earthquake cred will consider it a very pussy earthquake (different sources report between 5.4 and 4.4, and it was centered just west of us).

I think I prefer my house not to move, thanks. Definitely not the kind of shake, rattlin' and rollin' I prefer to do of a Valentine's evening.

Oh, goodness!!! I have only experienced very small earthquakes in my life, and I would have to say that they also scare the living crap out of me.

*wraps you in a very tender robed embrace*

I find them very off-putting too, so I hope you're feeling less rattled (no pun intended)now.

I've been through seven, three in Australia and four when I was in New Zealand - all, like yours, small in the scale of what they can be like, but the four I was actually awake for (the NZ ones) bloody terrified me.

Yes, I slept through the three in Australia, although they woke the rest of the household! They were around 4.5 but I snored my way through them and felt rather left out until I copped the ones in NZ while fully awake and was actually glad I did miss them!

Yeah, when you're not used to them, even the small ones can be unnerving. I first experienced one a couple summers ago, when I had just sprawled out on a lounge on the deck for a nap. Suddenly, my body and the chair were vibrating. My first thought was that I was having a heart attack. I stood up suddenly and saw that the entire deck was vibrating. I figured that my heart wasn't nearly big enough to set the whole deck to vibrating and concluded that I was experiencing an earthquake. It was definitely unsettling, and my intended nap was kiboshed.

I felt it, too, babe. I was at my computer when I felt my entire house jump, and there was a loud noise that sounded like a fuel truck exploded. Everything on my bookshelves rattled–even my monitor was shaking.

We have several of old fault lines that cross the state and one of them is along the fall line. I saw that the epicenter was due south of your house. For a minute I was afraid that something had happened at the Lake Murray dam. Thank goodness it hadn't!

Dad said he felt it but Brian and I didn't feel a thing. We were otherwise engaged at the time, but still.

We got a definite jolt! I blame it on the wild and crazies in Edgefield - of which my father's family is a large part!! My kids and I were not happy at the dance the house did, though! There is a large ornate mirror above my mantle, and I thought it was a goner for a minute there... we actually have minor damage in the plaster walls. Hopefully, insurance will help! Glad you rode it out safely.
