State of Teddy

I tried posting using the beta version of LJ's new post editor. It messed with my head too much, so I'm back to old familiar territory. If it ain't broke, etc...

Today makes day 15 of gluten and sugar-free in our household, and I like it. I've been trying all sorts of new recipes, and TheHubs™ has pronounced them all a success. A good friend of ours just dropped a huge amount of weight on this special diet plan which also cuts our gluten and sugar, and he's given us a couple to try as well, including homemade refrigerator pickles. I'm on that. TheHubs™ has lost 8 lbs, and while I haven't weighed myself, I do feel lighter and less bloated for sure.  We're certainly not going hungry. Grocery shopping has drastically changed, but it's been fun trying new things and living in a world without sugar. We've even got used to unsweetened iced tea, which is a minor sacrilege here in the South.

Another strange but not really result of cutting all sugar from my diet is my eyesight. I'm going today to have an eye exam because I simply cannot see out of these glasses. I think they are too strong. Typing is really becoming a problem because my monitor is a blur. Besides, it's been two years since my last exam and I'm more than due. I have to face facts that with my level of near-sightedness, perfect vision is off the table. Financially, laser surgery is as well, although I'd jump at the chance to have my eyes lasered. I really don't mind glasses or contacts, as long as I can actually see out of the things.

My book cover guy has designed the front, and I absolutely love what he's done so far. He's a super nice guy, who really seems to be enjoying creating the cover. I hope to get my proofing copy today. I've still got to get up the nerve to go to the bookstore I hope to host the book launch. Writing the book is the easy bit - it's all this promotional stuff that scares the hell out of me.

We had a complaint on the last podcast that I 'over-edited', which is fair - I did. But I frickkin' hate listening to someone ummm and ahhh and 'you know' and so I edit. I think I overdid this one mainly because it was so long and I wanted to crunch the time a bit, and I got into a groove of taking out all the air. Our network owner hinted that a lot of people 'told him' they wouldn't listen anymore. I don't know how many a lot are, but our download numbers have increased lately, so hopefully I'll turn it around before we lose our audience.

It bothered me, though. I spend a huge amount of time editing a recording, and one part of me want to acknowledgge that. However, I am realistic enough to admit the last one in particular does sound over edited. Oh, well, it's the same way with fanfiction - when I get a bad review, it stays with me for days. I'm thinking my skin's got to get a hell of a lot tougher once this book is published.

Speaking of which, I would still appreciate you taking a look at the website for any mistakes or anything that doesn't 'feel right'. I'm still debating the necessity of having it at all. Before I shoot it over to my personal domain and the expense that entails, I want to know if it's truly the right thing to do.

Well, I'm off to the shower and then off to the eye doctor, then off with TheHubs™ and The Mater for some post-birthday shenanigans. Huggles!!

There's only one real critique I have of the site and it's that you're giving away too much of the plot in your synopsis. If this is a reader focused site (as opposed to publisher/agent) there's just too much information in the summary, some of which seems like should be left to the reader to discover on their own. Like the doctor being a good guy. I feel that should be a reveal for the reader. The focus of the story might be the D/s relationship but I feel it would be better to keep the little surprises a surprise and make the synopsis a bit more teasing. You don't want to give away the store before you get paid.

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you - I reread and completely agree. I've pared it down a bit more, and I'd love for you to take another look and see if this looks a little better. I really appreciate the feedback, babe! ♥

I'm trying - this is the stressful part - writing the book was a dawdle!
